This forum has made me laugh. Someone suggested to turtle on short map.

Here is an analysis on why turtling usually does NOT work on short maps (Swamp, Halloween, Desert)

Player A starts with 3 miners.
Player B starts with Archer Sword (the best start in Short Map).

By the time Player B gets to player A's Base, Player B cancels his 2nd sword to make a miner. Player A Is forced to garrison his units and wait for Castle Archer protection.

Now, Player A has 5 Miners. Player B Has 3 miners + 1.5 miner (center is worth 1. miners). Player B has a NEAR EQUIVALENT Eco (4.5 miners to 5), Center, AND A BETTER ARMY!

Turtling on short map is possibly the 2nd most rookie thing I've seen on this forum (first was "buy 5 swords on castle, rush statue". I hope this guide helps you guys understand why it does NOT work on short maps.

What if player A starts with castle archer and miner, then makes a miner, while player B starts with sword-archer, then makes a sword? Even if he cancels the sword, player B would be 12 seconds behind schedule of player A in acquiring the miner; while player A has a castle archer, player B has a wounded unit that must be healed up first.

Now, player A makes a sword or an archer to harrass the sword archer; if you are playing on castle, then you would be able to bring them into castle archer range in no time at all. Then they would be forced to garrison or die, which sets them back even more, as they have then lost the center, as well as the troop advantage, as you may easily bring in more troops in this time.

Edit: I may be a forum troll, but I'm perfectly serious when I say that the castle archer is more powerful than the normal archer, for the same price.

Please consider this: With a good offensive turtle, the idea is that you lure enemy troops into range of the castle archer to wound them, then attack them as they flee. Usually, the sword-archer combo will successfully run away; however, with an archer, it is possible to lure their troops into range of your castle archer. If they're good, they will use the hold command, and make their troops stand still in the center; however, by then, you would have the superior defense compared to their attack. And if they up their attacking power, they will lose the advantage they hold in economy.

With the castle archer, the combat efficiency of your troops at your half of the map is basically doubled.

Should they attack your base, you hold the advantage of being able to send troops to the garrison to heal up, as well as having a castle archer rain arrows on their troops.

The turtle on a short map isn't supposed to help you build the better economy; its purpose is to help you build the better army.
