hello guys, if it's not too troublesome, i need some help for an explanation for double framing, i saw a lot of animations, played it frame by frame, and by my conclusion, so many animators did a "double frame" things on their works.
so what is it for?
WHEN do you suggest to use that? (please answer this at least)
is it good to use it? or is it better to make animation without double framing technique?
thanks in advance! =D

Double framing is useful if you want to make your movements slower and smoother.
Animating double frames is useful for any fps you are using, but it's most helpful when you are animating at 18 fps or above.

Well, double framing is used for what Molgera said and to slow things down when they get too fast or full of action. Hyun's tutorial on a basic stick "fight" touches on this subject. Do you know how to double frame?

okay, from what you say, it would be useful to me, but i don't exactly know when i should double framing and at which frame, i tried this, but it doesn't seem quite right to me:confused:

Some animators use it to make very fast movements look smoother, but it really depends on your animation style and what you're trying to accomplish. I personally think it's a waste of time, but others swear by it. It takes practice like everything else, but if you don't think it's helping your animations or your workflow, there's no reason to force yourself to do it.

Well, yeah of course it would also be better to make more inbetweens and not overuse double framing because, I've seen the terrible effects for my self. And, if you're triple framing at any point, don't bother with it and just draw more inbetweens or change your framerate. Use it when you think it would be useful and if you think it would be useful. With some moderation.

A pretty nice technique I learned from watching KidK's tutorial was to double frame 2 keyframes before and after a major hit. So for example, let us say you animated a punch. You'll go two frames before the actual punch, double frame that spot, then go two frames after the punch and double frame. Again, it's really just experimenting around, but there's no shame in starting off with a good example.

What's the problem with triple framing? Heck, I even penta frame at slow actions, And it looks better than when I single frame all of it. Just knowing how to use it right makes up for the biggest part.

Yes, of course. However, I'm certain it would look better if for example "Bobby" drew more inbetweens and double-framed them than if Bobby just bi-tripl-quad-quintu-hecta-octo-framed all of it. Unless you're going for slow-mo or something.

I triple frame sometimes too. Not that often, but it helps when you want to slow things down.

That again depands on your own style. You can't tell people not to triple frame as you did in your previous post. They have to discover what they like most for themselves. If anyone happens to feel comfortable triple framing they should fucking go for it. There aren't any guidelines to how one must double/triple frame to make it look good. That's personal shit. And yes, you're right. Bi-triple=quad-quintu-hecta-octo-framing all of it can't be too good. But at right times it can pay off.
