Let's make this clear. Lag is not exponential. This means if you have a slow system, playing against someone else with a slower system doesn't make it worse. You both feel the results of the game just being slow for one of you. This is why this is a very beneficial for those with normal and fast connections that can play the game at the speed it was designed for.
