I'm not sure what play style or kit they could go with here that wouldn't end up disappointing. Obviously if the player has the abilities as depicted in the video that would be seen as horrendously over powered. Imagine being able to rewind the other players good decision making, I for one would be pissed if I kick another players ass by playing well and they just click a button like "REDO!" Because instead of facing you bravely as depicted in the video, players would obviously build tanky so they could just rewind and run like hell.
This game has enough stupid easy escapes as it is.

That said the character looks really cool.

I really like the rewind just for the sake of saving the shrine at the end.

I see a couple of ways this could be used without the obviously undoable global-ranged rewind of the whole Rift.
Rewinding your cooldowns, dodging the next skill(s) that hit you just like that one item I keep forgetting the name of, using it on an ally (support Ekko pls ?) for yet another annoying-ass Zilean/Yorick revive, getting HP back when getting killed for a short while after activation.
I really, really hope his sword will be used correctly as a toplaner and not as a mage midlaner. I'd see this character more as a bruiser with utility spells to help his placement (dashes, little rewinds Leblanc style) than a mage, rendering his sword useless on a nearly Kassadinish level.

He's seems pretty bad at fighting though, lol

I believe that Ekko might just be my new main. He is pretty cool.
He isn't actually bad at fighting. He just sometimes didn't predict somethings, so he ca just go back to fix them, while still suffering damage from the past attack.

God forbid champs that aren't the second least popular according to lol king today *Zilean*, or don't have a ton of skins, or for fuck sake would actually make sense to have a blood moon skin get one.

Off of the top of my head, how about fucking Aatrox? As much as I dislike him, Zed *One of the most popular champs in the fucking game that only has that one skin and that shit terrible skt1 skin that no one talks about*

You can't find a way to make blood moon skins for these champions, champions that it could at least be thematically appropriate for? But no, Zilean. If I was a Zilean player I wouldn't be excited, I'd be insulted, I'd be insulted that instead of actually giving him the TLC he badly needs that they just throw another trite bloodmoon skin at him so that they can ignore his ass for another four years.

Anyway, about Ekko, I admit that there is one thing I like of him, one I dislike and another about which I'm confused

What I like is that they showed that even with his time-travelling he can be injured, thus it has some significant limitations

What I dislike is that he seems to have no significant lore: by significant lore I mean it doesn't change in any relevant way the already existing and fleebling one. To explain it better, think about Jinx as a good example of being "significant" (she interacts with other characters and has a well-written/explaining lore), Bard/Kalista/Rek'Sai/Ranmus as ones for "useless" (they don't matter shit and their lore pages don't explain shit too (for some info you have to lurk inside forums and wikis)) and Azir as one for "ridicolous" (I still wonder how having a fucking giant ass golden disc floating around doesn't pick anyone interest (like, really? that was wall the developement you thought for it? no more influences, effects, ecc.?))

What I'm confused about his how will they pull his time-travel off, since it seems to affect EVERYTHING (not just him and his opponent)

Zileans fucking useless now, it pisses me off. He had one reliable damage spell before, and now its a skill shot that's literally the easiest thing to dodge. It's like dodging a short ranged Xerath ult that sticks to you.

New Tristana is the old Zilean if played AP.
