Okay. Where do I start? Well, first off. It reminds me of Castle. Which I'm pretty sure it was inspired by.
The weapons could've been designed better. Still having the lineart on the guns and just coloring them in with gradients makes it look a bit half-assed. You probably could've gotten some cool weapons from some other members of the community if you asked them. Also the grunts, or soldiers, or whatever they were. It goes without saying that their helmets were carbon copies of the Caste solider with a larger visor is all. And lastly. The characters were half assed. They weren't fleshed out and I found it hard to really care about any of them. In the final scene where (I don't even remember his name) stays behind and gets killed. You see a sense of sadness come from Cosgriff. But I really didn't care. To me he was just another expendable solider, simply redesigning a character so they don't look the same as other ones doesn't make the character unique or have a deep meaning. I feel like we should've gotten some background on these characters to better know them. Something the Castle Series did flawlessly.
While the paragraph above may make it seem like I didn't like the animation. It's quite the contrary. I thought it was amazing. Great animation, lots of suspense and even some horror now and then. The backgrounds were stylized and dynamic. And overall it looked good. (But the bitmap spaceship really irritated me)
In the end I think you took a step in the wrong direction when you decided to just thrust these characters into their situation with no development whatsoever. Deep and fleshed-out stories are driven by the characters. And I can't see the next few episodes going well unless you throw in some flashbacks or some scene where the character goes into exposition.
Congrats on the release Specked! Loved it, truly did. It's fantastic for what it is. I'm eagerly waiting to see more!
