How many infraction points are needed to be banned?
(note: This question is only here so newbies will know when they're near the limit.)

5 Active infraction points: Banned for a day.

10 Active infraction points: Banned for a week.

20 Active infraction points: Banned forever.

I don't think you realize how hard it is to get 20 active infraction points. Most are only worth 2 points and they expire in 2 weeks. The expiration time increases every time you get the same infraction before the last one expires, so to make it to 20 points you either need to break a shitload of rules in a short period of time or break the same rule over and over again. If it's ever happened before I don't remember it.

Personally, I dont really like answering this question. Now people will be all "Oh. Well I still have X points under my belt. If I continue fucking around I won't get banned." thus losing the point of infractions in the first place.

MoD tried pretty hard.
Next Generation did too.

Oh man, I miss the days where we all had a common autism-ridden enemy to rally against.

@Hewitt, honestly, the old system was better. It was after the Merge we changed it, me thinks, but before you'd get banned for a period of time, not points. Also, the mods were pretty fucking rough back then. I remember getting flamed like shit in the Chat Thread, and got banned for a week for "being a faggot."

Ha. Was that Deathwish?

Also, there should still be an option for banning someone for a specific length of time, varying from 1-10 days, 2-(4?) weeks, a number of months, or even two years I think is an option. Used it once on an eleven-year-old. Mod control panel, ban members tab. It was all in the Moderator's Handbook but Jeff took that down and I don't think he copied all of it.

I only spoke with Deathwish in the Workout Thread. I dunno who it was, I just remember fuckin' 2D and zawmbee tearing me a new one.

Fucking Exilement was in on it too. I don't know who it was, it was probably 2D when he got modded.

He actually wasn't a bad mod. Sure, he often was in trouble for breaking rules as a mod, but not a bad mod.

Zed is correct. And I do in fact do this to some of the more uhm creative users. I don't even bother infracting them if they're doing the offense with the clear intent of riling you up or annoying people without pretense. I just go straight to the ban. The most I've done was 2 weeks and the minimum 3 days.

But as much as possible I try not to do that^ which is why I never tell people how many points they have left or how many points require a ban so it'll put the fear of mod on them.

Not that I don't mind Rosie's reveal. Now I just have to be more vigilant.

2-D was aware of this being a mod once and abused it as much as he could post-merge. He would fuck around and accumulate just enough points to not get permabanned via minor infractions, and then take a break and let his count reset then restart the cycle again. I don't remember if you were already a mod at that point but Jeff basically said "alright, we have to deal with this guy" once in the cave and that led to his 5-month expulsion. In the end, he never chose to come back.

A year ban. I'm sure no one would remember the day their year ban expires on a forum.
