I was on the SSb4 hype train. Until the demos and even E3 tourney showcased how poor the game will be.
This isn't a Melee over Brawl argument at all. Rather, there's something missing, something more fundamental that's necessary not just for a successful game but one for a competitive outreach and that's options. The choices you have going for attacks and movement are just not strong. Let me explain some. Spacing in this type is game is BIG. Face it, proper spacing is what separates getting a combo and breaking out of one. And with giving more knockback yet cutting hit stun comes breaking the possibilities to follow up with another attack. Rolling on the ground is extremely fast, but there's almost no lag on ground attacks. This leads into the next problem where certain moves can actually combo, but only with itself! With the removal of smash DI, you can chain moves like fox uptilt (That's right, uptilt) and shiek's fair/tilt into high percentages only by getting the first hit on a good portion of the map.
This is why Melee is more successful than Brawl. There is room for more decisions.
They also took out carrying your momentum through a running jump in Brawl and kept this change in Smash 4. They also changed that crouching no longer cancels dashes.
Fuck. I'm pissed.
What do you think of the Amiibos and how they play into the game? Also I wanna know what people think of the characters announced so far because I've been insanely underwhelmed with them, aside from the customizable Miis which I thought was neat.
Wii Fit Trainer - Not sure how I feel about her. Her move set looks boring, but she's a goofy character that could be potentially fun to play as.
Mega Man - Not really hyped to be honest. Final Smash looks cool though.
Villager - Actually looks legit. Planting a tree and then chopping it down as an attack is dope. And (from what I can tell?) he can pull out a water can or axe depending on what stage of that special move is in, so for example (if I get this right) maybe he can use his axe to hit other people when on this stage. Cool strats possibly!
Rosalina - I loved Ice Climbers in past iterations, so Rosalina being a multi-character is cool.
Little Mac - Initially not really hyped, got more excited for him the more I learned how Sm4sh's movement options got gimped. Little Mac looks like he moves around fluidly.
Greninja - See above.
Palutena - Ugh.
Pac-Man - He cab turn between 3-D and 2-D Pac-man and has a fucking Galaga attack. Must play.
the idea worked well for skylanders so I think Amiibo is a good idea, but from what I've seen it doesn't really have a place in smash brothers. I was curious if anyone else had a problem with them being in smash brothers, because it essentially seems to let you swap out characters mid-fight
The way I see it, it's another option that we do or don't have to use. Buffed computers are nice even though I'm not really optimistic in terms of it actually working, but the notion of switching between fighters mid-battle is cool (if it's confirmed yet, I don't actually know). In previous iterations, I've expressed the desire to play against people and switch characters between each stock Marvel vs Capcom style, but you could never do that even with hacking. Now in this game, you can do that manually using Amiibos, and there's the slight possibility where someone can hack Sm4sh to do the idea I mentioned above. Plus the figurines were announced to be released at $10-$15 a piece, so at the very least the prices aren't outrageous. I understand the pay to win concern, but if you play with your friends, this shouldn't be a big deal. Tournaments will ban this in competitive play. And I really hope to god they don't do this for online mode, because that really would be a pay to win styled gameplay which would ruin it.
