Alcohol isn't bad if you can do it in moderation.
Cigarettes need to go though. That stuff is horrible on all fronts.

Well, forceful attempts at banning things that a large amount of people generally enjoy are almost certain to fail and just cause a lot more stupid shit.
If you'd actually want people not to drink or smoke, the most intelligent way to go about it would be to make them not want to do it because of health/societal issues, etc.
But like I said, both drinking and smoking are rooted so deeply into most societies now that it'd be pretty damn difficult.
