So way back when, I got the aberrant idea of juggling around various ways of having sticks communicate to see what way was the most worthwhile. So, putting together a few waggish skits to run the dialogue through, I spent all of February making another test shortly after creating my Weapons Testing video. I ran into trouble after evaluation, and upon whipping up a few fixes to idealize the methods (as mentioned in the YouTube video's slides below) found most of the methods on equal standing and appeal. Once more, I ask my fellow animators...
...Which of the following 4 methods of dialogue (including "fixes") do you think is the most appealing?
Animators: Preferred method of dialogue?

Not the middle two. Having lips move without any sound was a bit off-putting, and the constant grunting was irritating. I think the last one would be best if you could get the lips to sync up with the words a bit more naturally, but it's almost certainly not worth the effort. So I'd recommend the first one.

Standard being my favorite, I'd hate if someone had gruntspeak. The grunts are so overused, I can't stand to hear them in animations anymore.

Amusing, very.
I'm a bit of an advocate against text-to-speech unless it's done right with real-ish sounds, with enough practice you can jury-rig UTAU (a freeware vocaloid-like program for singing) into such. Also, too frequent grunts, animators who use 'gruntspeak' usually only say a grunt per line and with the japanese-dub, good luck getting enough lines for everything.
