So.
I'm starting this thread because I'm kinda sick of overweight people always being protected when bullied. Sounds very harsh, but songs like 'Big girls, you are beautiful' are wrong (You might know that song, might only be known in Europe).
Now, I understand that there are people who can't help but be overweight. I have a friend at school who has something with his organs which causes him to gain weight even though he only eats salads or something. And those people shouldn't be hurt when they read this post.
But when you see people like fat bastard (okay, not that bad, but fat), walk in class, getting bullied and then act all sad.... I kinda wanna punch them in the face and yell: 'You're doing it to yourself, idiot!'.
So, my question is:
Do obese people deserve respect?
Or are they ruïning their own lives and are therefore plain losers?
Respect for overweight?

You are speaking from inexperience, Id like to see you become obese and try to deal with it. Its not as easy as saying "heh, ill just eat some salad and do some pushups". It takes genuine hard work to lose weight like that. A lot of obesity comes from heredity, so saying people are ruining their lives isn't quite correct. You are probably a skinny little stick with a fast metabolism, never having to work off weight or anything like that. And if so, you are a pretty big dick for calling obese people losers.
Do they deserve respect? Well yeah, but no more than anyone else.

WELL HERES HOW I SEE IT
YOU SHOULDN'T BE AGAINST OR 'PREDUDUSTSESES' A PERSON SILMPT BECAUSE THEY ARE FAT.
IF YOU DO HOWEVER GET INTO AN ARGUMENT WITH THEM CALLING THEM FAT IT A SWELL INSULT. INFACT, I DON'T SEE WHY PEOPLE ARE AGAINST IT.
I MEAN IT'S ALL GOOD AND WELL WHEN SOME IT HARSHLY INSULTING SOMEONE ABOUT AN ASPECT OF THEIR PHYSICAL APPARENCE THAT THEY WERE BORN WITH BUT CANT CHANGE WITH OUT ETTING PLASIC SURGURY.
BUT AS SOON SOMEONE IS INSULTED ABOUT BEING OVERWEIGHT (which by comparison is not hard) IT'S AN INSULT AND THEY CANT CHANGE THEY WAY THEY ARE.
IN HIENSIGHT, ITS BULLSHIT AND FOR SOME REASON I WROTE THIS IS CAPS.
END COMMUNICATION

I WAS obese a few years, and yea I got bullied A LOT [In my first school, high school of course it was over or mid school I don't whats it called ther lol]. And it was really ****ed up >_> so yesh, of course its there fault (a bit). They of course ate to much to get overweight, but its not like they WANT to get fat or something.
So if you havn't expierend it you shouldn't talk, cause it can be ****ed up. =D and really there arn't much people who support the obese dudes or girls, mostly its 90% of the guys that tease another and 1% helps you out and feels for you. while the other 9% does nothing. so wtf?
Some people eat more then those kids, but just have something that they gain weight faster etc.

Usually I am neutral when I meet someone, but I won't respect them any more or less than I normally would.
Do I find large people look gross? Yeah. Does it change how I interact with them? Probably not.
Either way, if they aren't trying to lose weight, then they're trying to gain weight.

Well, the overweight people are usually like that because of genetic heritance, trouble with hormones, disease, food disorders like binge eating and excessive overeating, or plainly being too lazy.
Eitherway, they should not be treated any different than other people. If they get respect, it should not depend on their looks.
And if they are being bullied on just because of their physical appereance, then they are right to be protected. Just like any other individual, being bullied on for wearing glasses, braces, etc.

They only deserve respect if it's from genetics.
For people who are unbeleivable massive that you see eating a Big Mac and a Diet Coke at McDonalds who SAY they are on a diet (hense the diet coke), no, they deserve NO respect and NO sympathy.

No. Respect should not be earned by any state of physical appereance, may be genetically inherited or not. Respect is brought by one's character.

Fact: Your opinion of people is derived from their appearence immediately.
I really feel sorry for fat people who got fat from having a bad childhood and eating nothing but sweets. You know, it could have been easily prevented and their parents screwed them over before they knew that being fat was bad.
But the second thing is, whats the point of making fun of fat people? Does being fat somehow mean they can't live a fulfilling life? No. Definitely not in this society, it makes absolutely no sense to make fun of someone who is fat in a society where there's more clerks, computer engineers/jobs where you sit on your ass all day, then people who actually need to do physical labor.
-I find this humorous because in older societies, where everything revolved around physical labor, (hunting and gathering, fighting, etc.) someone who was fat was respected because they were considered to be successful.
People who make fun of fat people because of their weight are just insecure. And yes, fat people being made fun of even if it's not because they're fat do probably deserve special treatment because of all the times they've been made fun of for just being fat and how that has changed their life, (mostly through school, as most of you can easily imagine). And this still stands even though I know some fat people who are real douchebags.
-For example, if you're judged by your physical looks so much that nobody every gets to know the real you when you find some people who don't care so much how are you going to come across to them after being 'abused' throughout school? You're either going to be excessively needy or come across as distant, defensive, and douchebaggy.
So yeah, whether their cause is genetic or otherwise they do deserve some extra pity.
Main points in bold.

I actually agree with both of these, if possible. I've been overweight for most of my life, and, no, it's not from genetics. Most of my life I was a slob and ate everything while not being active. However, nobody ever made fun of me. Ever. Why? Well, usually I made fun of myself. And I was the funny kid in school, the class clown. People didn't care that I was a fat slob or anything like that because I'm a good person with a sense of humor.
For the past few years, I've become more active and changed my diet. I've lost a good amount of weight an will continue to do so. Really, it's not that hard. I do find myself thinking "Just stop eating so much!" when a giganticly obese person walks by me. But just like nobody cares if black people say nigger, if jewish people say jew or that jews are greedy, nobody cares if I make fun of fat people, since I am one. See: John Pinette. Good day.

I agree with real. It really isn't that hard to lose weight. This summer I have made a promise to lose a good amount of weight, and so far I have succeeded. You really just have to limit what you eat and let your metabolism do the rest.

If they was born overweight as an illness they deserve respect, but
if they got overweight by eating Big Macs everyday at McDonald's
It's all their fault.

I don't really know. I just ignore them.

I'm neutral about fat people. It's when they take off their shirts and show all the flab when it's just sickening.
