Over three or so years, I animated using 12 fps and found I could not do a very convincing walk, job, stroll, sprint, or run. However after I switched to 24fps, me and my friends found it much easier to animate simple and complex mechanics. I was just wondering does everyone else feel the same way?

I don't. You just need to practice good, doesn't matter what fps.

I animate with 12 FPS all the time and I see no problem with it. Maybe you're used to drawing a lot of frames.

Alot of people find it easy to animate at 12 fps since they started with that at their noob time. But they should advance and get better for collabs and joints.

I used to animate at 12 fps, but now I use 18. They both worked fine for me. I switched because higher fps lets you do faster movements and generally looks more smooth.

Even though everyone starts at fps 12, I wouldn't imagine it as a n00b stage. For example stuff uses it. It's just slower and requires less work.

I played 12 fps's last friday and it really hindered my social life =p.

naw but really, I think it matters on style. i've seen some really good movies that looked good in 12 fps and at the same time some equally good ones at a higher fps. you cant really say which ones best because, like people, movies arent created equal.

Well when you animate at lower fps you have to know what frames to remove and what frames to add to make your animation look good.

With higher fps there's more frames that you have so more leeway to mess up.

Both are equally hard, I've seen animations at 12 fps that could easily be at 24 by their smootheness.

Most people do 24 I'd assume because it's relatively easier to get things to work right.

it definitely matters. with 12 fps, that means your animations can only perform 12 movements a second, which is hard to handle if you're doing a very fast scene where something moves very erratically.

we'll like we said earlier it depends on what your trying to make and who you are personality wise.

Personality doesn't have to do with FPS.

It's just whether or not you learned/have the specific skills required to make 12 fps look good or if you learned/have the skills to make 24 fps look good.

Higher fps CAN lower your wobbly and stiffness, but it could also increase it

I still think it's all relative to who you are. For example, if you are goofy like I was with randomiser 2 I used 16 fps because it was good for my notso serious animation techniques.

Sometimes you need 24 fps for collabs
