This is not my problem, but it goes beyond my expertise and therefore it is beyond the expertise of the rest of the Pivot section. Therefore I put it to the rest of you.

To sum up: Whenever he saves his animations as gifs, the icon of the file in which he saved becomes padlocked. These padlocked files don't appear when he looks for the file to upload it.

Presumably it's some clusterfuck of a security setting but I don't think I've seen this problem before and I would like to know how to fix it for next time.

USE FILZ
edit: oh wait nvm. save as avi, put in somekind of media uploader, THEN save as gif. Or just leave as avi, cuz then you can do sounds.

This didn't work. When I click on system and press edit, it brings up a window that says that I do not have ownership of the file, and that I need to change the ownership of the file to me, but when I try to do this, it brings up an error message that says it was unable to change ownership of the file because the system could not find the file specified.

Also, I can't save as avi.

don't paraphrase computer errors, it's very unhelpful for troubleshooting (read: i have no idea what you're talking about if you do this). provide some printscreens or directly quoted error messages instead, please.

while you're at it, give me some printscreens of the properties dialog of the folder - specifically the "general" and "security" tabs.

Somehow I knew I would need to show some print screens. Anyway, here is the folder's security properties:

And here is the general properties:

And here is what happens when I try to change permissions for any user:

It gives me this error message no matter who I try to change the owner to:
Image
I think the problem is that the system somehow forgot who the owner of the file was, even though I am the only one who uses my computer.

you're clicking 'advanced'. you're meant to be clicking 'edit' (and i am assuming that you have administrator priveliges).

you could also try simply making a new folder on your destop and trying to save your gif there.

Thank you. This worked. Doesn't it make you feel silly when such a complicated problem has such a simple solution? Anyway, now I can post my animations and receive criticism!
