Looks too muscular, doesn't seem to resemble an anime girl in anyway(except for the eye) nonetheless, good try.

Not muscular.
@JanRavnik
Any critique can be nicer, but I don't see a problem if it doesn't extend to insults. The delivery shouldn't matter more than the content and Mizu isn't obliged to honey his words for the people he critiques. (Though most starting artists wouldn't be getting more than just lrn2anatomy.
Rather than debating whether a certain critique is overly harsh, you should concentrate on giving advice that will actually help.

Okay, enough about mizu's cnc-ing style. He's not doing anything wrong. In fact, mizu is one of the more decent critics around here alongside lobotomizer, charry, and drone. With that said, the rest of you need to understand certain things:
He wasn't being mean, he was giving simple, widely-accepted advice: Do Not. Start With. Anime. Just because the majority of this site loves anime as you have proposed, doesn't give it a right to be used as a springboard for drawing human beings. It's wrong. And mizu could not be any more blunt than that. More on this later.
The "Everyone Starts Somewhere" argument is a common misconception. By your logic, if I churned some effortless 5-second crap right now, I deserve less bashing because it's MY first time and I, having neither the patience nor the time to actually learn tutorials on the Internet or elsewhere, totally deserve legitimate advice. People like you are the reason why this section has lowered its standards to the point that anyone can just come here and post anything and expect anything to be weaned from it. What you don't realize is that they'll most likely get lambasted with one common critique: It's not art. You have to learn it first.
"Everyone Starts Somewhere" actually means, that yes you ought to start simple...by knowing the fundamentals of the art. Like, if you ever wanted to draw human beings posing, then you should start with just lines, shades, and individual shapes, before moving on with body parts and finally perspective and all that shit where you combine all the elements together. Yes, it's embarrassing but EVERYONE STARTS SOMEWHERE.
Lol. What's being an animator got to do with anime? Is japanimation the only kind of animation around here? Just because you started with anime, and you managed to pull it off without a hitch (I saw your recent thread), doesn't mean it is the proper way to do things, especially if you're just "starting out". And what's getting a degree got to do with drawing well? Anyone can draw well if they just practice. You don't have to be an Art Major to be any of the fantastic celebrities on Deviantart. But you can't. Start. With anime. That is, if you plan on understanding basic proportions/anatomy at all. Case in point: JanRavnik's repeated attempts at justification:
What. The fuck. I thought you were more mature than this. Why are you telling mizu off when me and Drone gave you the exact same advice ages ago:
Now let's look at what exactly you were referring to when mizu told you off. I've attached your reply here again so you can see the juxtoposition:
mizu has given the exact advice me and Drone have, alongside the usual critique. In what way was he being as mean as you have claimed? And moreso, mizu critiqued you on a work where me and Drone specifically advised you not to do: Starting. With. Anime. You were even fine with it at the time which is why I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this. Either you love drawing in mediocrity forever, or you just hate mizu on a personal level that his critiques aren't worth shit.
Back then, you were so glad I gave you that advice that you asked me this:
And I said no at the time. Well, this is the reason why. Advice for something new from you is valid, but if you keep making the same mistakes over and over again, don't expect me, mizu, Drone, or anyone to say the same things over and over again.
Quote from HyMasterYou say a lot of mean things. It's his first time give him a chance. Everybody starts from something.
Quote from JanRavnikI agree with what you said, but what Im trying to say is that you can sound a little more positive even though you didnt mean anything bad.
Like telling your cnc a little bit nicer, because the person whos going to read your cnc will feel a lot better if he reads what he did wrong and what he can improve,
if you told him in a nice way.
You dont have to sound so strict, is what Im trying to say.

Quote from HyMasterI kinda agree and disagree with you on this though. But most are animators here so it's better to do anime than draw real life art that some people will never get a degree on.

Essentially this^
Anime style is cool and all guys I get it, but art doesn't work like "oh that's cool, let's do that" all the time,
It takes a great deal of practice at everything else to do the style right, and I can guarantee you that everyone who does manga/anime style art or animation professionally started with the basics and worked their way to what they liked or wanted to do, not the other way around

I kinda misinterpreted what mizu said at first because I was off from the forums for a very long a time, But after he CnC'd one of my posts I realized that he's a really helpful guy and he can give great critiques that you could learn from. It's just that I started from anime that's why I had to defend it, but I get his point now.

Same here
I thought anatomy wasnt a big deal, but after looking at some examples like Scyra, I was shocked and felt like an idiot, saying that starting with anime is fine.
I guess I owe Mizu, Hewitt and Drone an apology.
Sorry guys :c

I wouldn't say decent critics, more just critics.
Anyway, you guys need to stop looking at the critic and looking at the criticism itself, and stop taking every bit of advice so personally.

ugh i need to say something but
its honesty and cnc, not 'dick 'mcloser' brown'
my cnc: the head is too close too the neck to be properly placed and reread what TheKidNinja said.
If that's how you see things then I won't bother with you anymore.
If no one is honest with him cause they're scared of hurting his feelings he won't get better, he asked for cnc not praise.

Quote from Azure KiteIt looks like SHE HAS A DIIIIIIICK.
she truly does
~ahem~*adjusts tie and glasses* Cnc:
she looks really stiff from her neck down to her waist her chin is too sharp. the way her hair lays on her shoulder is odd as well. the skin expressions on her upper body are a bit much and her clothes are really... well sloppy? not sure of the word but she looks like she just woke up in those clothes. like said by Azure watch out with the folds in her clothes. pretty decent for a first attempt though

Wow, this thread managed to entertain me for at least a week (Or part of a week?). For some reason the entire episode of events reminds me of that Steven Seagal movie where Mr. Seagal beats the racism out of a man... I like this happy ending ;)

Because of the purportedly lower standards around here, I define decent as anything better than "It's nice. I like it."

Well granted, there isnt really anything to decently critique around here given the volume of things, so I can't really say if you know any better than just advising people to read loomis and sycra all the time
