OK im new here to the forums and this is my very first post and thread. I just got my Macromedia flash 8 and today is my very first day on trial(im a noob). I need some help with the paint bucket tool. for some reason i cannot fill in any spots. I make sure my figures are gapless but still i cant fill anything in. Someone help!

You cant fill things in because the space you are filling in has to be completely closed and on the same layer. Many people new to Flash have the same problem. Also if you are using the pencil or line tool to define the space to fill, you can run into problems because there is an invisible line that runs down middle of the pencil/line that determines where the line is and NOT the color itself.

so how would i fill in spaces in shapes made by the line tool?

You have to make sure the lines over-lap or something because even the slightest hole will make it un-fillable. Also if you draw one line and click the mouse right after to make a second line, it should start the line exactly on the last one making fillable.

Check the layers. I've seen lots of people have this problem. The best way around it is to make one shape at a time or just use the paintbrush to make the shapes and fill them in.
Once you use the program enough you'll figure out how to fill properly. Just dont give up. I've seen a noob in my animation class color an entire background in with the paintbrush because he was to stubborn to figure out why he couldnt use the fill tool.

Make sure you didn't press J
It's a shortcut for object drawing, it makes everything you draw into a movieclip.
you cant fill in movieclips unless you enter them.
if that still doesnt help. you're ****ed :V
