I recently had that Idea to split an animation in half, and make it similar to a motionclip like in flash (just in half). so, why not splitting the animation in more parts? And then boom- Dudes, there is so much potential and room for ideas for sprites like this, I really would love to see you using this as reference for ideas.

I used photoshop to cut the pieces (and I used a batch query to make them all similar), but it should work in Gimp too.
(windows- actions - new action. record. stop when done. go to files-automation - batch-select your action and files).

I simply just discovered it and was amazed to see how it works. I am a bit sad that the sprites don't work correctly all the time (if cut without any empty space to the corners, the background gets transparent/ if cut wrong, however, white space is in the background) but overall, It is an amazing way to make awesome effects, at least to me. I hope I could give you good ideas with this.

^ I animated this to the half and reversed it, I want to make another version (where I don't have moving lines, it takes too much time for just testing and for fun animation though

putting some of my stickmaking/animating in a video was the only way i could think of to show a little of my projects without actually showing the animations i made. (didnt want to post screenshots)

that happy spider can be found here (dont judge too hard, it was made for fun, obviously)

This will help.

Great animations. I like how you get a good sense of weight, although maybe the second thing the guy swings off in the second animation should have moved a bit more, and more slowly. Also, on the top one, when the arms cross over it might be best if they're right in line with the body. When I watch it I don't always get the impression that they're switching and I think it's because the arms and the body make one thick line that my eye says is the two arms bouncing off each other. But it's hard to tell without doing it and it might just be me. And this is just nitpicking anyway.

Also also, looking through your old animations now, your sticks have a habit of dragging their feet unless they have enough leg joints (the spiderstick is awesome). One solution would be to bend the knees more with human-like sticks, but frankly that's boring. Come to the dark side and animate exclusively with multi-joint monsters.

awesome comment and awesome suggestions zed :D i always miss something when i animate normal sticks. something like a hip. i sometimes think way too complicated though. the newest animations also are kind of full with "rust", didn't animate since 2 years or something until making them though. but i finally found back to animating, and it's really nice to see you people that you enjoy my animations :D

something like a hip.

I gave a stick hips and shoulders once. Everyone thought it looked a bit weird but it felt way more natural to animate. Now that I think about it, if you're using Stykz then hips would be a good excuse to use the stretchy limbs.

you can stretch the limps in the new pivot 4 too, just like in stykz :)
i tend to give the sticks at least shoulders, its easier then. also it looks cool (thats stykz this time):

i used to use stykz for this, because it wasn't possible to do this in pivot without forcing the animator to edit the stick for every frame (which isn't "animating" animore in my opinion)

i miss the option to move the hips when animating a figure, because it gives much more possibilities to animate the figure, even though it's not that easy. but you can move the figure's leg positions without moving the body at all.
Image
because of missing hips, there are some moves you just can't do, just like the tilting... i don't know how to describe that. but if you walk in real, you move your hip too.

Amazing. You my friend, prove that pivot animators can be just as good as flash ones, if not, better. Good job, and from this point, your animations only get better and better.
