Ya know what? Let's stir something up.
Rapier.
Unlike the katana, if I lose a finger I'll still actually be able to use it. Hell, I could lose an entire arm and be fine (upon recovery).

Katana and how in the world if you lose your hole arm you could still use the rapier
Jul 25, 2014 11:14 PM #1223088
I like both but katana is better if we have to choose

Can we like have some reasons to go with these decisions?
good luck wielding a katana with one hand.

omg. where are you getting your sources from, anime? There is no such thing as a one-handed katana. If there were, then its not a katana. It's probably a shorter knife sword used for parrying.
Entire movelists of samurai martial arts use the katana with TWO hands in their stances except for draw cuts because they rely on kinetic force.

Definitely katana. Yeah you can stab someone with a rapier, but that's about the only move that could possibly cripple or kill your opponent. What else are you gonna do, knock them around with it? It's not even that heavy to cause much damage if you slash someone with it's side. No wonder it's just a sport nowadays.
A katana is sharper and you can cut people in half with it, both things a rapier lacks.
EDIT: I read some more on rapiers and some of them DO have sharp edges that DO cut you, but still nothing compared to a katana's cutting.

I'm not surprised by the results because everyone seems to have a hard on for katanas around here.
If you compared the 2 blades they are significantly different, the katana is the ideal cutting blade, whereas the rapier is the ideal thrusting blade. The rapier is light and one wins a duel with a rapier by making swift movements and continuous punctures, whereas the katana is heavy and slower, but can win a duel with just one blow.
You also really can't compare the 2 because it is very reliant on the swordsman, but if I had to pick I would choose the Rapier, because I don't see someone with a katana landing a blow on someone with a rapier.
My god the people in this thread are ignorant. "No wonder it's just a sport nowadays." Are you implying wielding a katana is still an effective mode of combat?
A rapier can cut you very easily, it just doesn't cut through a bone like a katana will, it makes small cuts in the skin. This said a duel is usually won after landing several hits and applying lots of small cuts, crippling the opponent.
You claim that a katana will cut people in half (which it can't), but that would never ever happen if the other person was wielding a rapier, unless they made a huge mistake, which, may I note, most likely won't happen because only very skilled swordsman usually carry rapiers.

Its ridiculous and pointless to ask if 1 sword is better then another, because of the simple fact that swords don't fight by themselves.80% of the work is done by the swordsman.I perosnaly can't take anyone's side.Master Rapier wielders can move really fast and there should be no problem for them to take down a normal Katana swordsmans because Katanas cannot parry/block attacks. However, a swordsman who has mastered all kenjutsu techniques would be a pretty hard oponent for the Master Rapier wielder. If there is a real fight between a Kenjutsu Master and a Master Rapier wielder it will all be decided by the swordsmen's patiences, agile(rapier) and physical strenght(katana).
PS. I have heard myths that a really powerful Katana attack with a correct technique can cut Rapiers and even long swords in 2 parts (but still its just a myth).

Maybe he is just asking to know which weapon is seen cooler by the others because he cant decide by himself.
He is not asking which one is stronger
