Sebastian's grip on Iris' hand tightened, he stopped liking paths like these ever since they had entered that drill. That event seemed like eons ago even though in the back of his mind he knew it had barely been a week. But he wasn't as afraid, because this time he was with the team, this time he was with Iris. He took a step along with her, "Hmmm..." He scratched his head with his free hand, "Left or right? I say... Right?"

As Nikolai came to a stop next to Dante and Anna, he closely examined the claustrophobia-inducing mountains that spread around, forming a forked path that would grant them both advantages and disadvantages in terms of heat and light. The mercenary took in what the Apex had said, and then the opinions of the others.

“If you can somehow get to the top of that mountain, Mason,” Nikolai replied, “Then be my guest, if you feel like being Fraysan food. As for the forked path, it’s a bit of a challenge. It depends on whether or not one is more fond of light, and sudden darkness. Or barely any light, and heat.”

The mercenary smiled and gripped Dante’s free hand, “Personally, I agree with Dante. Left is a good option.”

Looking at Dante with a confident smile, Iris said "I agree with Dante as well" she then turned to the path and said "Let's go then...". And so, Iris started to walk into the scary and thin path just hoping for the best as she walked to the left side of it.

Mason nodded to the suggestion of not scouting. He bit his lips as the group moved left, and if he had skin on his palms, they would be profusely sweating right about now. "I hate the heat." He muttered to himself. He lashed out his claws, and they let out and eerie creaking sound as he prepared himself. He placed the rock he was playing with down and started to follow the others, ready to swipe at anything at a moments notice.

Sebastian laughed to himself as he was led to the left by Iris, he was thoroughly shot down, but Dante's logic made sense so he had no problems with it all.

As the group followed the path on the left darkness began to fall. The sky seemed to be eerily red in the fading light. Twisting and turning down the path they continued to go. The path suddenly ended in a dead end where what looked like a rock slide had taken place.


"Well, this was an unproductive use of time. Should we turn back or try and find a way through?" Michael questioned.

"Yeah I think so, I don't feel like climbing down...", aaid Iris turning her back to the rock slide and went back through the same path they have taken... "It's so dark here tho... I got an idea", Iris spawned a fire arrow and touched it slighty at the top of it, fire started to come out of it working like if it was a torch. "There we go".

with the new found light Iris' advanced eyesight barely had time to glimpse something move near the top of the mountain ridge. A small pebble tumbled down from where the movement occurred.

Nikolai realized that they were at a dead end with a loud sigh as Dante cradled Anna in her arms next to him. He looked towards her and gave her a reassuring smile, just as Iris started up a fire arrow to bring some crackling orange hue into the pitch black night that, before that point, had only been slightly illuminated by the moon.

He was just about to move to turn back around, when his ears twitched. He heard the slightest sound, the sound of a pebble tumbling towards the ground. He didn’t see the being, but he heard it run across the top of the mountain. Immediately, he pulled out his two revolvers, spinning them around in his hand before pulling back the hammers. Simultaneously, he grabbed his trench coat and threw it over his body in one fluid motion, his body now covered with the armor plated clothing.

He looked around at everybody, his revolvers still out as he made a quick head-count. “Alright, so who’s gonna go check that out?” He asked. He grumbled, "If none of you do it, then I will."

Hearing the pebble Zero turns on his night vision and goes to check. "I'll be right back." Zero said as he ran off towards the sound drawing his swords on the way and engages his jets to fly to check what made the noise.

As soon as the cyborg reached the top of the mountain range a loud roar was heard. A huge gorilla like beast leapt from the top of the ridge and slammed into the cyborg mid-air. Zero was shoved into the rock wall of the mountains as the weight of the beast dragged him down. The monster grabbed Zero's head and slammed it into the stone, carving the rock away with the cyborg's face. As the two reached the bottom of the cliff the monster tossed Zero back into the group, knocking over Nikolai, Dante, and Michael. The creature roared in confusion and rage and an army of smaller creatures flooded down into the pass.

Their backs against the rock slide and the monster blocking their exit the party prepared for battle.

Nikolai didn’t like the idea of trusting somebody he had only just met a couple of hours ago with the daunting task of checking on what lied ahead for them, but he decided to let it happen anyway. Which, in hindsight, was a large mistake. It was only a few seconds after that he heard a helacious roar from the top of the mountain that shook pebbles and various pieces of earth to the ground. Out of instinct he stood closer to Dante, and soon saw Zero coming at them at great speeds.

“Fuck m-”

The bounty hunter wasn’t even able to finish his sentence before the broken-down cyborg was launched into them, knocking over Micheal, as well as himself and Dante, who was still carrying Anna. Nikolai’s back hit hard against the rock formation behind them, and he fell forward on his hands and knees. However, he wouldn’t be like that for long, jumping up to his feet and keeping his trench coat on him as he aimed his revolvers towards the gargantuan monstrosity racing down the rockslide. Even moreso, dozens more monsters were coming down as well.

He cursed himself, and slid in front of Dante, who was still holding Anna, unharmed. Both guns were aimed forward towards the beasts. It was at that point that he made the silent vow that he would make sure both the Apex and Anna would come out alive from this scenario, and virtually unharmed.

He wouldn’t allow anything to happen to them.

And with that, his face grew serious, his pale red hues staring at the swarming beasts as he knocked off the smaller ones with the depression of his trigger. Explosions rung across the treacherous mountain.

The explosions shook the very foundation of the mountain tops loose as another rock slide began to fall down towards the group, crushing any of the smaller ape-like creatures in its path.


Michael stood up, withdrawing his pistol and sword. "MOVE, WE HAVE TO GET PAST THE BIG ONE SOMEHOW BEFORE WE'RE OVERWHELMED!"

Mason watched as the rock slide started. He quickly started telekinetically grabbing at the rocks that came down and he attempted to chuck them at the beast. Straight at its head. and just for good measure he also attempted to mind control the monstrosity, so it would give less of a fight.
