View Profile Well apparently 100 BPS is the best Cox has and apparently what we had before was bad even though everything loaded fast.
I'm guessing my family has mistranslated something and or forgot a letter somewhere.
Edit: yeah so they apparently forgot the M in MBPS and dropped BPS on me instead not knowing the difference. So yeah.
youre only as fast as your slowest connection. I have 20mbps and have never gotten anything more than 5. Good luck over paying for Internet.

View Profile 1024 bytes equal 1 kilobyte. 1024 kb equals 1mb.
you do the rest of the math
i'm also not sure if i'm right or wrong but it should be right

Not too much of an issue paying for it. And yeah internet speed is always relative. Pretty much never consistent. Funny thing is everytime we have moved and received a new internet provider during the first month it runs amazingly. Once the first month is over you start to randomly get hours of slow internet. That leads to many router resets in order to have a chance at getting the regular internet speed even though it might make it worse. In my opinion everytime the router got reset it gave us maybe a day of slightly better speed and then however slow it was it was now even worse.

View Profile Wait. Is it megabyte per second (mbps) or megabyte (mb)? it makes a huuuuge difference, because if it's the latter, you only get to (in theory) spend 100 MB in a month (or per whenever you pay for it)

View Profile Per second, Ai.
And no, sometimes ISP's regulate your speed to control bandwidth but it's irrelevant. You probably will never have a download speed of 100mbps even if that's what you're paying for because there are so many hope between your computer and whatever server you're trying to connect to. I mean sure you can easily get 100mbps on just copper connections, but you also have o consider trunking and bandwidth allocation as well as your connection to the remote host. We run all fiber lines and still experience latency because of the age of our equipment as well as the connectivity between us and the distant end. For example, pinging across a satellite can talke maybe 304ms on average, whereas a line of sight shot with a max distance of thirty miles on a good day will result in 1ms on average speeds. We're only shooting to the distant end and back, so it's literally a one hop connection. If you were shooting to a server on the other side of the country or world it would be even worse.

View Profile Nah i'm asking him that because his situation is like mine. pretty fast internet for the last days of the month, shitty for the rest. i'm on a 4GB plan.

View Profile You're not in the US though? Is he? I understand your question but typically you won't have such low bandwidth restrictions in the US. Even in very rural areas. Hell, I think Verizon's smallest data package on a hotspot is like 250mb.

View Profile Us 'Muricans can't rest easy unless we're different (read: better) from all of you other, less significant countries.

I'm laughing so hard bc how is the flag on the Moon related to measuring units?
Flag on the moon? Where did all Greek philosophers live?
Where is Portugal?
Who invented Latin?
Let's just ask irrelevant questions to make a point, lol.

View Profile America is so great that everyone refers to us by the name of two continents because we're the only relevant country on two fucking continents.
