That's been my major concern with his appointment so far: it seems that it's being used to promote his brand. He's letting his kids run his business, which is unheard of in presidencies (you tend to give control of your business to those not directly connected to you, such as an executive board while in office as it's a conflict of interests), and his daughter Ivana is promoting her own brand through wearing her line exclusively in all these events where she's with her father.

Ethically speaking, this is kind of a terrible thing because it indicates that Trump may only be viewing this as a way to put himself on top. I wanna see all his tax information he's been withholding. If he's clear, then I won't feel quite as annoyed since it means he'll have no need to push his business through his family while in office, so that conflict of interest won't be as relevant. Hopefully.

he won because literally anybody was a better choice than hillary after she backstabbed sanders, not because any swing voters were convinced he'd be good at the job.

I get your point, but I'm still not convinced that Trump was somehow the better compromise.

to his credit he's apparently killing the TPP though

We'll see. So far it's the only promise he's keeping consistent on. Granted it's only been a few weeks but his other avenues aren't looking too dedicated.

Yet they still protest Trump with an almost cult-like fervor. I mean, I don't like the guy, but c'mon folks. Grow up.

I still don't know if I agree whether protesting is an acceptable thing to do but I'd be lying if I said I didn't sympathize and empathize with them at least a little bit. Not exactly the greatest time to be LGBTQ, Jew, or in some cases a person of color, especially with the (hopefully brief) rise in hate crimes and the people Trump has so far appointed into office.

What a coincidence! I'm having an existential crisis too. I think we can be friends.

As a "person of color," my stance is that I don't much care about Trump until he's actually in office, and I won't care then until I see him actually do something.

Right, some people might feel less threatened then others. While I follow relatively the same reactionary stance as you, there is some sense in acting before the change then living in the aftermath. Some would argue that appointing people like Bannon into office is already "Trump doing something," especially if you're Jewish.

While certainly there is some sense to being proactive rather than reactive, the issue is that despite his appointments, we don't actually know what can go through. Congress approves a majority of actions from the Executive Branch, bar Executive Orders which have their own guidelines on what they can allow. It's why, despite the platform Trump stood on for his campaign, I'm not bothered by most of his campaign promises. I don't see them going though. In that same vein, I don't see his appointees being able to properly push their agendas.

It would be weird seeing Trump in our history textbooks 10-20 years from now.

Right, but when these kind of people hold important positions of power within the government, it still begs the question of the possibility, and you can never feel completely assured even with the existence of checks and balances. With all the cards at now, there's plenty of reasons out there that might convince someone to protest, enough to the point where if something does happen "we told you so" won't sound so ridiculous.

It's not exactly reassuring that the Republican party holds power in congress, senate, the supreme court justice in a sense, and in many other areas following Trump's inauguration in January.

Who's going to have history textbooks in 10-20 years?
