If you wanted to ask why I binned it, why not just PM me? Why do people seem to gravitate towards posting these questions publicly like they're scrutinizing and raising awareness of my actions? Maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

I binned it because it was violating 2 rules. 1) Wrong section, and 2) No linking for self gain. If he wants to reintroduce himself he is welcome to do so, but his thread seemed like a thinly veiled excuse to get people to click his link.

Probably because moderation has been a lot stricter lately. The fact that benja used to be a mod but didn't think twice about making that thread hints towards how much standard procedure has changed around here.

Not to imply that's necessarily bad (I agree that he only came back to promote his contest), but it's never been like this as long as I've been here and SP natives are going to notice it when it happens. As far as posting about it here instead of PMing you, I would have done the same thing, just in case it's a simple answer that someone else could explain, or in case you've answered it publicly somewhere else and I missed it. Don't take it personally.

Well yeah, advertising has always been against the rules, but members close to the community would get a fair amount of leeway as long as they're not harming anyone. It'd take as much effort to trash the thread as it would to vote for his contest.

At least that's how I remember it.

Isn't that how it was for pretty much every rule?

It's how I remember it as a mod. I mean the NTF was made specifically to weigh how much the person contributes to the community before deciding to do anything.

Again, not that I think that's how it should be, it's simply how things were. Just trying to explain why Jeff thinks we're overreactive. It's not that he's acting out of line, it's just different from what a lot of us are used to.
