I'm going to copy and paste my facebook status here, since only one regular here is friends with me and I don't want to deny everyone else the benefit of my wisdom.

Generally I'd consider myself a fairly hardline atheist, but looking at some of the Highest Rated comments on the BBC coverage of the Pope's resignation, wow.

"To old to do the job? I have to agree. I was too old to believe in fairy stories by the age of about 7."

I don't think I've ever seen such one-sided comments so up-voted. I'm proud to live in a secular nation, but they could at least be polite about it.

There's a time when being polite simply doesn't cut it anymore.

Yes, but that time is at least four posts into a debate when you know the guy you're talking to is flat-out retarded. Comments on BBC articles are made without any provocation whatsoever.

The whole notion of an enlightened pope with millions of worshipping followers is enough provocation.

I'm reading through the SP 20XX thread and getting slowly but methodically drunk. Save yourselves.

EDIT: lolomg nice post, Zed. It fits so well.

:) I have to say, I was amazed by the standard of writing when I read through that thread. The pacing and the feel of the prose is consistently bang on, and I really don't expect that from people on StickPage.

It's sure a marvel to read Hewitt; The participants really do try to ensure you've been immersed into their situation, and I appreciate that greatly.
It makes you want to forget you're reading an improvised plot.

I saw this on facebook. I agree. But its also a matter of contrasting how much vitriol each side has spilled on the others. Unfortunately internet atheists are mostly children and young punks trying to pass themselves off as the saviours of the human brain.
