@Molly: To be fair to Gunnii, your wording in this situation truly has been very insensitive, and the fact that this is happening at the expense of people with a legitimate mental disorder is pretty terrible. Even though it wasn't your intention to be offensive, trying to defend yourself and just repeating the same things that people have already told you aren't reasonable is a lot worse than just saying 'wow it turns out I have no idea what I'm talking about, how embarrassing!'

I think this might be another case of a misunderstood intention--the mod who changed the title is probably commenting on the fact that Molly is acting pretty silly right now. It's ironic because what he is saying right now is maybe the worst possible thing you could say to an actually depressed person.

I remember a really intelligent writer who said things quite similarly to you. He gave this speech to a graduating class of a top college in Africa, and it really made me wonder what to expect later on in life.
Well, he also killed himself later on.

The pattern! The Pattern!!

Did he require being called a shithead, moron, etc? No. Especially not when you are doing exactly what you accused him of. And doing so makes you look like an ass.

Oh my god, we have another Rochedan in the room. What is it with you young punks and not lurking moar?

Looks like this thread needs a good derailing

I think this next gaming generation will be really cool as long as Nintendo and Microsoft get their asses together so we don't have a Sony Monopoly. Then again, nothin wrong with another ps2

You don't have much say in something that you haven't experienced. And you definitely have no say if you don't even understand it in the first place. The reason why you get into this conversations a lot is because you post without thinking. Do you ever question to yourself "What would come out of posting this" or "How would other members react?" or so on or so forth. You need to do that before you post everywhere.

I was thinking that talking about Scarecrow's two cents and David Foster Wallace would be a good topic to branch off of.

I dunno. This may just be me being naive but I really do believe you can be happy by turning something you enjoy into your job, it's what I'm doing with chemistry, and up until now it's what I thought you were doing with Chinese medicine.
I'll agree with you that the whole 'living for the weekend' thing comes across as shallow, but I think a lot of that comes from people believing they need to earn as much money as they can to buy as much as they can, forcing them to work harder, making their job stressful, less enjoyable and then a mechanical task.

I'm doing chinese medicine to:
a) stop being in constant pain
b) become self-sufficient as far as looking after myself goes (ie. stop relying on doctors)
c) be able to help others

i don't particularly enjoy sticking needles in people, but i imagine that actually healing people would have genuine rewards, and therefore is probably going to be a profession i am unlikely to hate. previously i had started studying multimedia systems, but dropped it immediately upon realizing how much i would hate being given mundane and non-challenging jobs.

It sounds like the only way to reach your ideal is to create a society where money isn't necessary and people are able to pursue whatever they want without something holding them back, and if you can figure out how to do that, then you're a much brighter person than me.

Something along those lines... I believe each person should only have to work for their own direct survival. That is, if you want food, either produce something useful to trade for it, or grow it yourself. it would be impractical to do away with trade entirely, but everybody working for more money is just stupidity. if people are in dire need, others should help them out of kindness, not expecting anything return.

unfortunately i'm convinced that this kind of ideal society is only plausible if everyone becomes enlightened, or something.

hence why i insist that individuals must start working on themselves before they get too caught up in trying to change the world.

Another way of saying that is "Think before you post stupid shit that you don't even know about until you've experienced it yourself blablabla." Yeah. I get it. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT.
I just don't like talking about these subjects, because everyone seems to contradict with me, which is fine, but in a very negative fashion.
Ah, whatever. Why do I even bother if you guys are just going to be pissed off. -_-
