I dont see how being a dick can be justified. The way I see it, ranting is a barbaric tool used by self-loathing, inhuman cretins to bring anyone who is capable of sympathy for others down to their level in order to deprive their victim of their humanity. Now, I don't think anyone here is that hateful, but I have my doubts.

To answer your question, have you ever thought about asking nicely? Not once have I ever seen someone here rant at a user who asked them to stop in a civil manner. In fact, I know it works because I asked Ahmad and Camila not to start fighting when they had a disagreement forever ago on the picture thread. I had read both their sides of it, and tried to smooth things over by explaining each side in an objective viewpoint. It worked, believe it or not.
