I was suggesting organism like in the movies; I meant whatever small creature might be in existence there, since we haven't seen all of Mars with complete detail and whatnot.

Another thing, here on Earth we breath oxygen and consider it near equivalent to life. Fact is, oxygen is a highly chemically reactive, toxic, combustive and somewhat acidic in nature, gas. More common gasses exist that don't need plants to constantly replenish them. Extraterrestrial life(if existent) not only probably breathes some other gas besides oxygen but, could be something so different and excuse any puns, alien that it might not fit what we consider life.

You're talking about pure Oxygen. Oxygen is so reactive that you'll rarely if ever see pure oxygen around. You'll always see oxygen combined with another compound or form diatomic molecules which, depending on what compound it makes, are relatively harmless and even beneficial to our bodies. I don't know much about Mars, but I doubt pure oxygen exists on Mars in abundance.

Exactly. In fact, that's why Mars is red. All the rusting. AND THAT'S WHAT I MEANT. That oxygen is mainly an Earthling thing, and things outside of Earth won't be as we expect it. I believe pure oxygen is found on Earth, though, in very small concentrations. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You'll find pure oxygen used in hospitals for breathing patients. This the most common place.
Also the oxygen in the air, it's not 'pure' as you would define it, since it's mixed with Nitrogen and a whole lot of other gases. It however is mostly not in the form of a chemical compound, only a physical mixture. Therefore it retains the same properties as it would have in all oxygen environment.

I think you're confusing what he means by pure oxygen.

Almost all of the oxygen that you find in nature will be found bonded to another oxygen atom, which is why it's almost always seen as O2 (the 2 being subscript). The oxygen that we breathe is O2, because O by itself is incredibly volatile and reactive, and will almost all the time be bound to another oxygen atom. There's no way they could even administer non-bonded oxygen to hospital patients, it's dangerous as all hell, and all the oxygen atoms would bond before anyone could intervene.

O- would tear your insides aparts, that's what free radicals are
Pure O2 is still pretty volatile, they only keep it in hospitals that way because you can absorb more with a higher concentration.
Also Oxygen isn't necessary for life, its just easy to work with like carbon; many organisms are anaerobic.

Keyword: Current. Instead of wasting time overanalyzing ever scrap of whether or not there was life in the first place, why not focus on advancement of terraforming methods and have a living example in a few hundred years?

analyzing shit is the key to advancing our knowledge of terraforming you silly goose
