Alright, listen up, dot hack is an anime/manga series that came out before sword art online.
with much the same premise, you should look into it.

Even though sword art online is better in my opinion, dot hack came up with the idea of being trapped in high stakes virtual reality before sword art online did.

Which is funny because you called my idea generic and then turned around and talked about how awesome and epic sword art online is "and it is epic"
