Really? I always felt like the controls of Smash Bros flowed along nicely. A for basic attack, B for special, Y for jump, and R for shield. Depending on the direction of the control stick, you do different moves based on the properties of the button you pressed. I mean sure, maybe it could've been better in some places, but in general the controls make sense and work together nicely. Unless you're talking about the wiimote. Fuck the wiimote.

To me, the controls are horrible. Everything you do it clunky and delayed. It's incredibly hard to turn around/move precisely. I just can't stand it.
If I am playing any kind of fighting game, I need split second controls. Controls that take effect the millisecond you press them. I used to play Fight Night often, yet I barely play it anymore because my console is so old, it's suddenly decided to introdude input lag to ring movement. Now whenever I try to move, it lags about 0.5 of a second behind my input. Can't stand it.

Use a crt screen.

When playing Brawl or Melee, don't play on HDTVs. Because Wii's and GC's hardware are kind of crap, they still output 240p or 480p if I'm correct. Because HDTVs native resolution is pretty high, they generally have to upscale the quality of the Wii and GC's (I think I'm saying this right? Anybody correct me if I'm wrong). Anyways, as a result, a lot of GC/Wii games suffer from input lag. It can get as bad as 151 ms of lag, or about 9ish frames (worst is usually on GC). The bigger the TV, the worse it gets, and the better the HDTV is too. Plus, for some reason, Brawl randomly decides to have anywhere from 0-2 frame input lag for no reason, plus the added lag from a wireless wiimote creates even more input lag.
Solution? Don't use a wiimote, don't play Brawl (lol kidding), and play on a CRT.
I think you can solve the worst problems by somehow playing Melee on a Wii U since it's output is noticeably higher, but it's hard since you have to do homebrew stuff (but you can play Brawl since its backwards compatible). Or something like that. I'll have to do more research (I'll probably ask dkuo or something), but this is the basic gist of it.
You could also use Dolphin and that won't have any lag considering your computer isn't crap, but that kind of defeats the purpose if you ever want to play the game with friends and not online/competitive, but I suppose it is possible if you have a big enough monitors and enough controller-to-computer adapters.
The competitive community of Melee is particularly infamous for the use of CRTs because since the game is so fast paced and technical at a high level, many players claim that even half a frame is unplayable.

Oh yeah, totally. It's not like I frequent the site, I'm just trying to pull interesting articles whenever I can because the chat thread seems to like them.
@Raptor
Any fighter game player who is playing online and complain that even .5 frame lag is unplayable sounds like a whiny entitled bitch. I played smash 64 competitively online and never bitched about the usual lag, pinging up to 500. When you said that I cringed.

Need to watch that again... I remember a few episodes like the back up controls for the robot... Just a crappy system that caught on fire and had a roll ball

I see you, old man.
No one will give you a hand.
Wheelchair bound;
Yet it's outside you're found.
No loved ones who care.
festering skin and grey hair.
It's hard to beat that high desert heat;
When using your feet to kick yourself across the street.
Others just think you're in the way.
But you struggle just to get to point B, from point A.
As other people disregarded you, my emotions welled.
So I got out of the car to help, utterly compelled.
Without thought, without hesitation;
There must still be honest goodness within the hearts of this nation.
You don't need righteousness, you don't need my sympathy.
And I only want you to see that I sincerely believe you're equal to me.
But time is of the essence, when this young man and old man meet;
So for his sake and my sake, I'll make it short, but sweet.
Young man said "Need a hand?"
Old man said "Need a beer"
Young man said "Here"
Not the best life has to offer, I gave him a five dollar bill.
But from the look on his face I could tell, he appreciates the goodwill.
I could see the young man still inside behind those bloodshot eyes.
I knew his homelessness was no guise, no deceit, no lie.
Five bucks can't buy him four walls and a roof, but that isn't something I can do.
However, those five dollars might be enough to buy him a burger and a brew.
Five bucks can't get him a job, can't get him a car.
In modern day America five bucks wont go very far.
As the storm draws closer, I hope he can get out of the weather.
Because he isn't long for this world, he hasn't got forever.
But still, even now, he's under the thunder and the lightning.
My five dollars might buy old man enough time to make it back from the war young man is still fighting.
As I walked away, with nothing left to say.
I'm not a praying man, but for old man, young man will pray;
And I wish I had time, to show you what I wanted to show
I can only hope that you know, that I know;
I see you, old man.
Goddamn.
No one will give you a hand.

Honestly I've been over due for a critical hit to the feels. Today the universe decided I've earned one.
It happened so fast and I had so much to say about it that there was no way I could spill it all out just by talking.
But now I understand a little bit more.

Honestly it wasn't intended to be a rap style post, I had more of a classic poem in mind. But you can see my rap stylings coming out through it and I like to think it's best read with a bit of a rap style to it.
