I have one foot in NJ attending boarding school and another foot in Seoul, Korea where I actually live.

You must be more intelligent than me.

Tell me, what's life in Korea like? I've always wanted to visit.

Contrary to popular belief, Seoul isn't a very exciting place to visit. There's relatively little stuff you can do in that city that you can't do anywhere else. The restaurants are the best, but I doubt that someone would travel half way across the world only for a meal. We don't have many points of interest nor are there any exciting museums or amusement parks. It isn't really like Japan all that much. Seoul is a LOT more fun if you have a friend to hang out with in the area. Seoul has a lot of nice spots where you can sit down, chill, have a drink, grab a bite, and all that good stuff.

Korea gets a lot more interesting when you start traveling outside of Seoul. There's a city called Pusan west of Seoul that has more historical places to look at (ex. Pusan beach, the beach that marines used to arrive in Korea during the Korean War) than Seoul. There are some cool parts of the countryside too, but you really would have to have a friend recommend you a place. There's also an island called Jeju Island which is sort of like the vacation island of Korea.

tl;dr Korea's pretty interesting place to visit if you're in that area of the world, but it's probably not worth the plane tickets if your from the West unless you have someone to hang out with/show you around.

As far as living goes in Seoul, it's mixed. It's nice and clean and not dirty at all in most areas despite being a city. You won't find many American products here, and you'll find a lot of Starbucks/McDonalds rip offs. Two things you should definitely know about Seoul before coming in is that oh my god there are a lot of internet cafes. I shit you not you will find at least one every block, and more often than not you'll find the people in there playing Starcraft or LoL. Another thing is that Koreans take their educational system seriously, almost to the point where it's fucked up. As a Korean, I have to work and study over the summer about as long as I would go to school if I had it, but I also know that I'm lucky since there are a lot more Koreans whose parents force them to go have tutors starting from 9 am all the way to 7 pm six or seven days a week with homework during holidays and especially summer, so I consider myself well-off.

You know I've always wondered where the name Raptor came from seeing as you're from Korea. Do you love dinosaurs or something?

My country's education is a lot more different than other countries. I think other countries schools have 2 terms in a year, while I have 4 terms. You guys have summer's holiday, while I don't. The 4 terms of my school has 1-2 weeks every interval. So it's like short breaks after every few months. I heard that other countries have very long school time, and around 4 months of holiday overall.

That's interesting, my home area has EVERYTHING to check out but the actual city location is hardly remarkable.
Just like where you live, the restaurants here are the best.

Yeah Koreans are crazy about education, probably because they want to advance.
Here in America we don't care about any of that shit. We'd rather get our fixes and relax.

I feel like a healthy mix between the two would be the best attitude towards education. To an extent I actually respect American education more than Korean education.

Devour consumes the souls of his victims by devouring them via his genitals.

I had a very low quality experience for American schooling. But I bet school is much more serious in Korea.

Though they made it illegal in my state to not show up to school. It's illegal for your parents.
Too bad it's not enforced worth a shit, my mom had to talk to the popo a few times. But generally speaking, the law enforcement didn't really care.

Are teachers allowed to strike students in Korea?

I've heard stories that they do, but I've never actually seen it happen. I've never really asked about it either, and outside of the occasionally stories nobody really talks about it. I suppose if it does happen, its a relatively rare thing to do nowadays.

But I bet school is much more serious in Korea.

Yeah, but it's too serious. The attitude towards education in Korea doesn't work out in favor of the student's word.

In America, until you're in college school doesn't really matter. Unless you're trying to get into a high end college.

Anyone can pick up on the basics in my country though. Our education in this country is super generalized. Annoyingly so, there's so little chance to actually do the things you're interested in until you're an adult, or if you did what I did, which is do the things I wanted to do and didn't show up to school because of it. Even once you're an adult, in this country you'll be working so fucking much that it doesn't matter.
Another problem is that a generalized education isn't designed for people whose optimal learning method is outside the norm. You've got to buy your way into good education in this country, otherwise you're going to community schools that will basically keep you in the same bracket of wealth your entire life. Unless your parents come into a lot of money, or work your ass off. But there is almost no incentive to actually do that, those people are just as depressed as most of the population.

I've been hit by teachers, I'd love to see those cowards do it to me now.

Back when I was Soul Eater (My dumbest years, 14 years old), I was in a chat room and ran into another guy named Soul_Devour. I jokingly said my name was cooler than his, and then basically everyone in the chatroom disagreed and said his was cooler than mine. I was traumatized.
My ego never recovered, and from that day on I had dreams of changing my name to Devour so I could be cool again. Now it's stuck. ;)
