I have a relative idea of that.

Maybe the city is someplace he's trying to go and the lighthouse is the beacon for getting there?

it's a reference to Bioshock Infinite, hence the cities under the water and above the clouds.

You all are terrible. Anyways, Cami, to answer your question, that's essentially the theme of the BioShock games as is Elizabeth's revelation in BioShock: Infinite. Basically, no matter what reality you go to, there will be a man, a lighthouse, and a city. In BioShock (original), the man is Andrew Ryan, who was sick with the shackles of society and wanted to create a place where everyone was equal and their work determined their position, etc, etc, it was pretty similar to communism. The Lighthouse is what lead to the city. Using the original game again, a lighthouse is what contained the Bathysphere which led to Rapture, the city.

To use BioShock: Infinite as an example, the man was Comstock, the Lighthouse had a special "aerial" bathysphere, and the City is Columbia.

(Exile beat me to it, because school.)

I feel like I was the only person who was really impressed with bioshock infinite.
That games atmospherics were simply top notch.

I enjoyed all the bioshock games but for me they weren't that "special"

No one else really talked about it.
The game really shows that little touches really count. Like when the barbershop quartet come down and sing. Mechanically it ads nothing to the game, but damn, damn it's sweet.

I didn't enjoy Bioshock,
partly because I don't like FPS games in general
partly because the story seemed forced and nonsensical
partly because the gameplay was very repetitive and much too forgiving

that part was amazing. I didn't even realize it was a cover of a beach boys song until I looked it up after. the rationale was that Fink used time travel to steal innovations from the future and take credit for them in the past, and that included popular music.

the whole story is incredible because of little touches like that. did you find the guitar when you played it? another awesome little scene right there.

-@frNME, what do you mean "forced"? the story absolutely makes sense, it's difficult to understand sometimes but I appreciate that they didn't dumb it down or bash us over the head with every relevant detail. don't blame you for not enjoying the gameplay though, I'm not a huge fan either.
