If this is a paper, then yeah man.
I was under the impression this was an application for a program in-school, and it made me concerned that you were shitting on yourself.
If anything, just please don't write so critically about yourself in a professional application.
I submitted this essay for a schlarshop from my battalion, and out of the other several hundred that applied, I got it.
I am XXXXXX Cook, and I am a XXXXXXXX at the University of XXXXXXX for XXXXXXXX. My civilian goals are to work in high-technology manufacturing, possibly for the military. My military goals, however, are to be the most dynamic, flexible Marine I can, and excel in any role or billet asked of me. I have always tried to learn from every experience that I’ve had, and I’m no stranger to asking my peers, and other Marines, for advice and input. I believe it is my tenacity for self-improvement and excellence that sets me aside from my peers.
For your paper, do you, man. You've got it. But for applications, state the weakness in a way that you acknowledge it, but also in a way that proves that you're in control of the weakness, you're doing something to combat it, and that the way you work around the weakness actually makes you a better worker.
Like, when I applied for the Veteran's Affairs office, I told them one of my weaknesses was remembering due dates, so I told them that I put sticky notes on everything, and always carry a notebook to write deadlines into, and I check it all the time. Thus, not only am I combating my memory issues, I actually end up being more productive because I have a constant reminder.
I start working there in August.
Don't sell yourself short, homie, because there's so many people that already do that. Like, set the bar for yourself slightly higher than you can reach, and when you get the job, you'll find out that when you have to reach for the bar, eventually you'll be able to stretch to it, so that for your next job you set the bar even higher, and you end up reaching for that too.
btw Nish I'm taking you up on that. I won't flame until next monday.
