It was a fantastic show and in my mind, one of the turning points of Television history.

Quote from En
Can this be interpreted as his desire to win? If we assume that he takes treating patients as nothing more then challenge, his despair can be a result of failure to find a solution rather than failure to help someone.

No, because if that was the case, he would be content with figuring out the puzzle, and not figuring it out in time to save the patient. He has constantly been showing having quieter moments where he empathizes with the patients, but he doesn't express it because he doesn't want to engage in small talk or be seen 'bonding' with them. We get several windows into his insight where you can see that he does truly care about saving human lives, just not about human etiquette and manners.

I've actually never been into House myself since I'm not much of a series person. I watched a couple of episodes and it felt like it was the same thing over and over again. Some patient has a condition, and there's an obvious diagnosis but then it turns out that it's actually not true. At the end, House comes up with an extremely unlikely solution and saves the day.

House's character seems written interesting enough though, and I could see myself enjoying his banter with various other characters.

Most episodic TV shows have the same structure. C.S.I, House, etc. House is pretty much a medical mystery, so it has a structure like a mystery.

Undiagnosable disease---> Team keeps trying and failing ---> Small insight, try something new, it succeeds for a while but fails again ---> Patient gets worse ---> Casual conversation leads to a revelation where House connects the pieces and solves it.

Its not about the structure, its about how the pieces fall in places. Its about the disease, its about the investigation, its about the characters (who ARE unique for each episode). Mostly its about great writing, lines, jokes, overarching plot of the main characters and the interaction between very interesting people. Above all, its about an extremely unique character (who has since been copied to death by other forms of media) with breathtakingly entertaining acting.

Yeah I'm aware of that, I'm just saying that this sort of structure really bores me. I already said that he's interesting, etc, and that I can see why would people enjoy this show.

Speaking on non-episodic TV shows, RIP Heroes after season 1.

I kind of agree with Mantha on this one. The same structure in every episode does get boring in the end (to me at least). Though I like series in general, especially those who don't have a specific structure and have a main arc.

Speaking of boring.

Seeing gildedguy's and whiterose's animations opened my eyes. I'm bored of stickfights. Watching the anims by hyun and nazhul and camila etc. didn't really make me keep watching them. These formulas are... what's the word here... antiquated. I do not longer want to watch 2D animations with no angles and two plain stickfigures fighting. I want style, I want story, I want charisma and I want colour. Fortunately there such animators. Also, the old animators who brought this now old-fashioned style in the first place, have evolved. Which is a good thing. Definitely a good thing. I guess that younger animators may be inspired by more stylish anims, rather than the fluid but plain ones.

Yes, yes, I just wanted to make sure your statement wasn't misinterpreted by other dissenters as a total condemnation of the show.

I quit watching House somewhere around season 6 or 7 but it's a fantastic show. I picked it up again recently with my girlfriend who's never seen it but it's slow going, 45 minutes per episode and 20+ episodes per season sure takes a while to get through.

It's been a while since I've seen House but I've always liked Hugh Laurie as an actor and I think he killed it in that series. My favorite episode has to be the musical episode 'Bombshells' from season 7. Probably the most unique episode of the series, the music from it sometimes randomly pops into my head.
