BTW: I don't know if this is in the right forum or not but here it is.
Would it be a good idea to...
Make a game for the occulus rift where you experience tragedies in first person (NOT STICK FIGURES!)? You would start off with small tragedies and then go onto the bigger ones. The cool thing is you could do it from different perspectives. If it was say, a car crash, you could choose to be in the drivers seat, back seat, or an innocent bystander. There would be A.I.s that react to the event as well and you could change the corse of the event. As some of the final levels, it would be famous disasters, Pompeii, 9/11, Haiti earthquake, etc. In 9/11 lets say, you could be on the plane, in the building, an innocent bystander, or a firefighter. Another cool part is that you would never know when it would happen and it would be historically accurate.
It would let people experience disasters that they would most likely not experience in first person. Its not supposed to be "fun". Probably more of an experience or disaster training.
What do you guys think?
Would this be a good idea?

Why would anyone ever want something like this

To experience tragedy, test your endurance, see what it would be like (or as close as you can come to it right now). Maybe to challenge your survival instincts in tragic situations.

This isn't really a debate more than it is just a discussion of different ideas. Moved to the general section.

I can see you've put a lot of thought into this

ryanjr originally put this in the debate section. That means, he is just asking whether such a thing is possible, NOT because he is planning or thinking of making such a game.

I know, the fact that he specifically thought to mention that in a potential debate topic makes it so much funnier

I would rather have some big company take the idea and make it real just so I could use it.

yeah I know what you mean, who wouldn't want to experience 9/11 through the eyes of someone on the flight? especially if you could play as Mark Wahlberg and beat the shit out of the jihadists.

I could understand morbid curiosity for smaller tragedies, but the idea is fairly controversial so I'm going to say it's probably not a good idea. There's a website you can visit that simulates drowning. I'm sure a lot of you would visit it just to try it and see how it is.

Okay if we're being serious on the topic, I think it would be a great immersive experience, especially for a medium such as the occulus rift. There's already been a few Experimental "games" (more of experiences) such as this guillotine simulator. So in the very least, we know it can be done and there are people in the world who can do them

Not related to the idea of realistic simulations, but I would love for there to be a Yugioh Oculus rift game. It doesn't seem too complicated.
On a main note, I think the oculus rift is a potential educational tool e.g. learning anatomy.

What does ryanjr mean by "experiencing tragedies" anyway? Tragedies take lots of time to build up. You can't just experience the finale and expect the same amount of impact.

I think by "tragedies" he may mean scenarios that have an element of risk involve, with the obvious consequence being death. If you think about it, the Call of Duty games have pretty much fulfilled much of that criteria.
but I propose a diving simulator. Escaping a sunken ship if you will. The player is hooked up to an oxygen tank with limited supply, and will be replenished if you find pockets if air. Spend too much time under, O2 supply cuts, player dies. Now that's a way to bring virtual tragedy to reality.

Not necessarily a tragedy. I used the wrong word. Its more of experiencing a disaster. 9/11, Pompeii. Im also thinking of just having experiences of historical events. The Boston Tea Party, Hindenburg, etc.
