in all the empire not just Chaos.

By Mage i mean...

Marrow Medusa Magikill meric infernos.

Because of their slow speed escape is impossible...

I am more interested in marrows and Medusa but i don't mind tips on other mages

elemental: have a secret service suppor group of water elemental to surround your mage
order: hide your mage behind a 6 spearton shield wall
chaos: hide behind 3-4 giants

Just target the insta-kill units first, and run the mages to the back. That's it, pretty much.

@denpants just to be sure, spearton wall does not block units from passing through them.

Shield bash does though to an extent, it's single target and temporary.

But I mean, you can just go to shinobi and go pass through the spear wall. And ele's v is ranged, same goes for medusa and marrow.

True. Bash is only helpful for protecting against being sniped by speartons.
But other than that, just keep your mage back if you see a ninja; Order giants are helpful for dealing with them, since either they'll be stunned and possibly killed, or they have to shinobi early and not get to your mage in time. And when it comes to medusas and marrows, instakill them before they instakill you.
Marrows can reap ninjas in shinobi, so they can survive a single ninja. But again, just keep your spellcasters back.

Bash should be helpful if you place it a certain distance in front of your magikill; the distance at which a magikill can escape from a shinobi in time. Same with giants. If you keep the giants a distance ahead of your magikill then the ninja will be unable to pass without using shinobi, and if it is too far out, it wont be able to reach the magikill.

Or use walls

Is getting a medusa and/or marrow pointless if they have a ninja.

and whens the best time to get a marrow

Depends on the flow of the game. It's best when you're taking control of the game. It's supporting units anyway. Sometimes you don't really need em at all.

Also, can't you stone the ninja? Why is it pointless? Isn't it the whole purpose of the medusa?

It's not exactly useless to bring out medusa/marrow even if they have a ninja. Well, if you can keep it safe anyways.

The key difference between medusas and marrows is that a marrow can reap a cloaked ninja, while a medusa cannot stone one. Therefore, if I bring out a caster against ninjas, it's probably going to be a marrow--as at least 2 ninjas will be necessary to take it out.

However, keeping a spellcaster safe means that it's not being used--and so it becomes necessary to take out the ninjas before casters can do anything.

No, you can't stone a cloaked ninja, and if you do it as it's going into shinobi it's a wasted stone face. You can only reap a shinobi'd ninja if you targeted and casted prior to them shinobi-ing.
