Lol, so this has been bothering me for last like 2 frickin years
is there not a spoiler button when I want to put something in the spoiler box, or am I just really stupid??

There's no button but you can type in the code yourself. It's [spoiler="name of spoiler"]spoiler[/spoiler] . It will look like this:

What I think he means is that there is not button to quickly access a spoiler, like there are for emoticons, video tags, URL's etc here.
