The End of All Things
I still remember it as if it had just happened yesterday... I was out in the woods hunting for food to bring back to my village with my best friend, Harod. We traveled to a clearing that overlooked a water hole in the valley below because it was usually full of large boar stopping by for a drink. I signaled Harod to run a flank from the east side of the valley so I could scare the boar in his direction. I descended into the valley first, and Harod moved into position. I raised my hand in the air to let Harod know that I was moving in, and he acknowledged as he repeated the gesture. I was halfway to the boar when I noticed that they were all dead. A black figure was among them, feasting on their flash with no regard to my presence. I shouted at the man who was trespassing in my villages territory, but he did not respond to my threats. I approached the man, and the first thing I noticed was the goat skull covering his head and it's mighty horns. He stood up and turned towards me. I gazed at the red eyes on the other side of his goat mask, and fear consumed my heart instantly. The man stood at least seven feet tall, covered in bones and skulls. He was dressed in the skin of animals I had never seen before. Black scales and feathers covered his shoulders. His right arm was some type of sleek metal, and his hand greeted me with sharp metallic claws. The flesh on the man's left arm looked as if it had been drained of all life. He wore a robe that was decorated in scales and feathers, and the bones of the creatures it was made out of. On his head he wore a helmet made from a goat's skull with jagged, razor sharp horns extruding on each side. It was at that very moment when I felt the presence of pure evil come across me. He spoke to me at first in a language that I did not understand. The sky darkened as the man crossed his arms over his chest and whispered "you have come to witness the end of all things". He threw his arms out to his sides as an amazing force overcame me and threw me onto my back. When I looked up, the man was gone and all that remained were the lifeless bodies of the boar he had slain. I cried out for Harod to come assist me, but he was no where to be found. The sky soon regained it's original color as I rushed back to my village. I arrived only to find that it had been completely abandoned. It was as if something scared everyone away. As I stood in the center of the town, I could hear screams whispering in the wind. It was as if everyone was still there, but I just couldn't see them. I searched the huts, but to no avail. The only building left to check was the town hall so I made haste down the road and into the courtyard. That's when I felt the same overwhelming force as before come across my body. I heard a mighty roar from inside the town hall, but I could hardly move my legs. The force soon left my body and I charged through the massive doors on the town hall. The room was black, but I entered anyway. As I marched into the town hall, the doors behind me slammed shut and I could hear them being barred shut from the other side. A torch burst into flames next to our chief's throne, and revealed the man from before sitting in his throne. He spoke, again in a language that I could not understand. Then he whispered, "the end is before you now, bow to me". I shouted out in anger, "where are my friends!?" The man stood up and whispered, "they all bowed before my grace, and have found salvation in everlasting death, and now you shall box before me". I cried out in anger, "I will never bow to you, demon!". As I reached for my axe, I felt the overwhelming force consume my body and force me to my knees. The creature whispered "I am no demon," crossed his arms again, and roared with a destructive voice, "I am salvation!" His arms extended as the room burst to life with an emulating red light. It was at that moment I noticed all of the townsfolk's lifeless bodies standing among this creature. Their eyes white as snow, and their hearts stricken from their chests. I noticed that Harod was not among these lifeless corpses, and hope filled my heart once more as I found the strength to stand to my feet. I roared out, "you will be the one to find salvation at the end of my axe, demon!" The creature smirked and whispered back, "sesentos aspiron desentus". The lifeless bodies began marching towards me as if commanded to attack. There was no way I could take them all on alone. I had to find a way out, but the door was barred shut. That's when I remembered the cellar underneath the town hall had an outside entrance. I used my axe to break the floor apart just enough for me to fit through. I dropped down through the floor and landed on top of some blocks of hay. I quickly grabbed a torch and set the hay on fire to prevent anything from following me. After that I made my way to the cellar door and broke through the lock. I could hardly believe that I made it out of there alive. The only option I had now was to make it to an old cottage that Harod and I used to store some of our equipment because that would be my best chance of finding him. I ran down a path that only Harod and I knew of and soon found myself at our old hunting cottage. I walked inside and yelled, "Harod, are you in here!?" Harod came running around the corner and said "shut up you damn fool! You'll give our position away to those damn creatures!". I nodded in approval and asked, "So you did see what that demon did to the town?" Harod looked at me in confusion, and asked, "demon? Are you stupid? That thing is an angel..."
I'll likely continue this because aside from Ultima (I don't think I posted it) this is my favorite plot so far for a platformer/adventure game project I'm going to try with either Unity or Construct 2 (after I have more experience with either or). The basis is combining religion and mythology to tell the tale of the earth's creation as well as destruction from my point of view based on stories in the Bible. If I do a continuation off of this story bit (which I probably will sometime), it will be revealed that the Angels as well as Heaven are corrupt, and 'Demons' as well as Satan are the ones trying to restore balance in both the mortal world and the afterlife. The Bible has been a lie and used to give God power by people seeking him for salvation.
