So this might not mean much to some of you but I just wanted to share because I know a few people who'll get a kick out of it. For those who don't know or don't remember, when I built the old FA portal in 2011 I created a bot named Goggles that would do things like announce the daily top 5 submissions in the forums and send messages to users about their submissions (before notifications were a thing). I completely forgot about this and if I was asked I probably would have assumed it had been deactivated when we merged the site.

Today I was browsing through the old FA forums posting screenshots as a joke to IRC when I stumbled upon the subforum Goggles used to make his daily posts, and I discovered that he's been making these posts fairly consistently the entire time the site has been disabled, even though there's no submissions to post. It's oddly depressing to see this forgotten relic of my programming past still barely functioning on an abandoned forum. To make things worse, the kind of things he writes in his post make me feel like a monster:




Poor Goggles. One day you will have a new home. :(

If this was an indie film it would be a depressing tale about a personified robot that I created when the site was at it's busiest, happy to help and be around people, then getting lost in the hustle and bustle of the merge and still functioning, keeping the place clean long after everyone left and forgot about it.
