Come on, don't lie. There is nothing wrong with saying that Christmas is about the presents. One of the busiest holidays of the year, it generates a certain amount of income for stores everywhere and drives business in all things.

Then again, you might forego that "heartless" outlook on those cheesy cartoons and tv shows that play almost around this time. It's all about spending time with your family, siblings, friends, and wishing good will on the human race.

You know, something that you should be doing all year anyway.

So. If you had to go with one stance. What is your stance on Christmas? Cynical or idealistic?

Why is there no "other" option, then have us explain?

Christmas is one of the two times a year I get to see my sisters, and the only time we can actually spend time together with no-one needing to work.

Because everyone will just pick Other. And explain AKA worm their way out of either of the 2 absolute truths.

This is a decider. And it's not just a choice that applies to you. The question is for Christmas as a whole. What is your supposition to this entire thing. Taking into consideration anything really, including those who don't actually celebrate Christmas. Or the general mood in the season.

I think X-mas is turning into a commercial thing nowadays or [general example ahead] an excuse for people to visit other people when it shouldn't be.

The reason to visit should be because you want to not because its Xmas.

christmas is a consumerism-fest perpetuated by companies that profit from it. so are birthdays. you shouldn't need an excuse to buy a gift for somebody if it's something you're actually doing out of love/care.

As far as te truth behind Christmas, scarecrow hit the nail on the head. I mean if we really cared about the meaning of the holiday why have we replaced Jesus Christ with a man that brings kids whatever they want? Mainstream Christmas is a lie and I don't really dig the idea of getting gifts for people. I tend to do nice things for people year round, rather than try to justify my bad behaviors in one month out of the year and then forget about it the next.

Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Christ. CHRISTmas. Not everyone in the world is Christian and those outside the church have taken some very deliberate steps to separate the religious aspect from the holiday, like calling it X-mas - the church didn't make Santa Claus - so your use of the word "we" is inappropriate. His name was originally St. Nicholas, a Christian saint. It was those outside the church that blurred the meaning and changed him to Santa Claus. That doesn't mean tradition isn't still upheld within the church where it belongs.

Christmas was never meant to be the corrupt high income day of the year. It just turned out that way. The shops saw this as an opportunity to bust out their "Best Sales", and stuff like that. Christmas is the only day of the year I get to see my father without going to school. And my cousins.

And some other second degree cousins who I don't know shit about.

About the birth of Christ. It shouldn't be anything more nor anything less.
As far as my christmas goes, that's just the time of the year when I get to throw a shit ton of cash for games (God damn you Lord Gaben) and merchandise, for myself only of course.

I won't refuse a present or two.

My interest in Christmas has honestly become less and less throughout life, starting from maybe 6 years ago, since I just don't want things that much. Besides, I usually got clothes, so it isn't as if there was some huge "zOMGYEEEEEEAHBAAAAAAAABBY!" moment or something. Just hanging out with my fam. Yeah, it's pretty much a holiday taken and converted to a Christian one despite its pagan origins (like most things in the bible in general), and sure it's commercialism at its finest. But that doesn't mean that havin a good reason to break out of routine and just hang out with your family has lost its place. Honestly, if not for Christmas, I'd not get to see my family as much this school year, and that's be damn depressing.

Besides, I rarely get presents. I just draw pictures for people and say "Here you go, something hand made shows my affection more than something bought." It's the truth, and I get money to use for other purposes. Like food and textbooks.

A present or 2 wouldn't hurt, but Christmas is a day where people give out presents to others. You should be doing kinds things all the time, not just going on a shopping spree for just 1 day to get people presents, and then just going back to what you always did before Christmas even started.

What is this "peace"
one day where we(your kids) just enjoy their presents
and for some reason their happiness makes you happy, or a success as a parent.
I mean, if it were for "enjoying what you have" their wouldn't be presents.

(Oh, and the lore of christmas comes from some ancient guys
chopping the heads of his enemies and putting them on a tree as ornaments
to show his almighty power.)

BONUS :D : Most kids aren't nice this generation anyways. The only day they're
going to be nice is this day. Bleh. Im a cool kid i think though.

It was all about presents until I moved out of my parents' house. Now it's mostly about spending quality time with them and getting a new pair of mittens. Also sleeping with my cat in my comfy childhood bed and rubbing one off into the good 'ol cum rug

Did not expect the polls to polarize straight down the middle.

Interesting.
