Eh, as far as resources go if anyone has a character who lives in an apartment but lives at home in real life, I can be a little bit of a hand. For a visual reference, this is what a decent one bedroom looks like, the studios I've seen are just the size of the last room.

There's 8 picture here. If your character is female, ignore the mess (Click to Show)

Other than that, I try to get to things in general, but for specifics or what not or if I miss something someone wants pointers on, I'm available by PM.

The front page has been updated again. I'm trying to make the reference documents section easier to read.

Speaking of, if anyone has a topic that they think should be covered, let me know and I'll try to fish up relevant articles to put up there. A lot of the articles up there right now are things that I've used in recent stories, but obviously there are useful topics besides grammar and style or medical. The larger the variety, the better (probably).

All right, I've updated again, now that the forums are not incredibly hard on the eyes.

Just for clarification in case I didn't explain it very well the first time, the difference between firsthand knowledge and secondhand knowledge is that firsthand knowledge is practical and applied while secondhand knowledge is theoretical. If you read a lot about birds or studied economics, that would be secondhand knowledge. If you were an ornithologist who physically worked with birds or did actuary work, that would be first-hand knowledge.

And please feel free to actually contact some people and request help! That's what this thread is for, after all.

Hello, so I was wandering around and I stumbled into this lovely website: https://draftin.com/

It's very clean and has a lot of features for writers, like collaboration, version control, and copy-editing. From what I've seen so far, it's a lot better for collaborative writing (and writing in general) than things like Google Docs, because it's designed specifically for writers. If this is the sort of thing that makes you happy, you should give it a look-see.

Also http://www.hemingwayapp.com/ is a good lil' thing to use. Identifies things that adverb use, passive voice, and ease of reading.

It would be remiss of me to not mention Grammarly, which looks over work for common grammar and spelling mistakes including punctuation usage. It does require an account, but it's free (with extra, paid features of you're into that).

There is also The Grammarist, a blog about phrase and word usage. They have entries on a huge portion of commonly mistaken words, as well as other fun stuff with word choice and idioms.

If you are writing across the pond and you're trying for the regional flavor (or flavour), you might want the services of Oxford Dictionaries, which lets you search in UK or NA dictionaries (among others). It also has articles on grammar and different terms from American to British English.

I already mentioned Draft, but what I didn't mention is that it has an option to add a word quota per day, with an option to email you reminders. It also tracks how much you write and during which hours you're most productive. (I recommend trying Draft.)
