I've never heard of it but I looked it up on wikipedia, are you asking if virtual-reality MMORPGs might exist some day?
If so, there's no possible way it'll happen on a large scale any time soon, the amount of bandwidth required for something like that is beyond what modern infrastructure is capable of. Plus virtual reality is still very much in its infancy and it'll be a while before they're widespread in any real capacity, I don't see developers creating and managing an MMO until there's a decent sized audience for one.
Some day? Sure, maybe. Technology moves fast. But in the next few years? No possible way.

I gotta be honest, it's because of the fanbase I've seen of it alone that has made me steer away from anything Sword Art: Online related.

For humanity's sake, I hope SAO won't exist.

No.
Considering these fictional virtual reality games require human fitness to play them efficiently, and a gamer's mind works differently, it'd be firing at the wrong audience. Would you want to play Skyrim with a wiimote or the Kinect in the holo-deck and putting in lots of effort to perform basic game movements when you could be doing the same thing pressing keys and rocking analogue sticks?
There's a very minor amount of physical immersion with a game we are to willing to put ourselves through as gamers.

I'm a gamer, I'm physically fit.
You're argument is flawed.

Also, SAO's VR is more brain rather than body. You enter a sleep like state when you play the game and the equipment reads your brainwaves to translate as movement so you don't really need to be physically fit to enjoy a VRMMORPG based on SAO's tech.

Even if the SAO "virtual world" exists, don't expect yourself to have some sort of adventures like Kirito's or some shit. You're probably gonna be the one who die first in the game.
Also, let's just say that it's gonna be released in the near future (probably not), it's gonna even take longer for it to be a worldwide scale. And prepare some money if you think you can even afford it cuz it obviously aint free yo.
Besides,

It does exist. It's called SP.net
Shameless plug aside, if SAO existed in our world, it would just be the hyped generalization of what would really happen. What would really happen is things would become more Log Horizon.

Fuck video games man. You ever heard of LARPing?
Why have some shitty textured nub with 200 ping try to kill you when you can have some chubby buddy over there pelt you with rocks that is symbolic for electricity.
EDIT: Also evidence that Charry is incorrect.

There's always the tabletops, man. I have dozens of stories spawned from their escapades.
EDIT: Ninja'd.
Jutsu, it would be very awkward and I'd rather keep my Rock Hard Gladiator. Shota it is, then.
