It's important for census reasons and shit to know your skin color. It's just easier to identify people based on skin color, since it's really the only constant.

Alien and I are straight from Africa. But we prefer the term Hispanics in most cases because we grew up on a farm in Hispanic land

I think the term African American was self serving for Black Americans. They obviously did not consider people like me who are black and from the Caribbean or Black people from other countries. However, aren't white people living in America but are from South Africa called African Americans as well? The term 'african american' itself is pretty much misused most of the time.

I don't quite understand what you're are expecting as an answer. If I am not mistaken you are talking about 'our' origin. Then that has nothing to do with where you were born. To track down your origin you need to go to hundreds of years ago and look up the tribe from which your country was created and thus your family. However that's most likely impossible due to most countries are not created only by 1 tribe (and I'd imagine your grand grand grand parents didn't give a lot of fuck if their grand grand grand kid knew from which tribe he came), especially here in Europe. For an instance let's take France: Franks, all German tribes (that originated in Scandinavia and are fucking a lot), Celts, Gauls( which are basically Celts), Romans, Vikings, all kinds of ancient tribes have gone through there, thus it's simply impossible to know from which of these you are, you might even be from other tribes that never visited France, but your family moved there hundreds of years ago, YOU CAN'T KNOW. Me for example, I was born in Bulgaria and both my mother and dad are Bulgarians, however, there is not a single '70%+' theory from where the fuck the ancient Bulgarians came from, not to talk about that all kinds for ancient tribes have gone through here as well. I call BS, you can't track down your origin ( at least if you're from Europe). Even Asians 'They know precisely where they're from' , that doesn't help you see? Knowing where you are from and from which ancient tribe you are have nothing to do with each others. As I said, even if I know that I am from Bulgaria which was created in the 681 and is the oldest European country, I have no idea what my origins are. Bulgarians all have different hairs/eyes, we were scrambled for Slavs until not long ago, but recent studies show we have nothing to do with Slavs, even tho we are surrounded by pure Slavic countries.

Now for your question 'can African Americans be considered African ' , no they can't , and most of them wouldn't want to be. As yourself said they have next to nothing in common with Africans, likewise (European) Americans have nothing to do with us.

i pwnd j0o because she's right there is no reason on getting to get hung up on this just call " African Americans " black . There was no reason to add African in the first place

Really?
That isn't your decision to make and please consider if "African Americans" as you've quoted, want to be called that. Also there was a reason, whether it was an ethically moral reason or not doesn't matter.
