Awesome. I've been looking forward to get shields which are kinda like the ones they are giving us now. :)
Oh and I'm not going to buy the bundle. It's a good deal but humble bundle doesn't accept paysafecard (which I normally use for stuff like this) and their privacy policy is really damn shitty. Shame.....

This thread dies too quickly. >.>
So for those that read the Robonews regarding Phase 2, post what weapon combinations you guys are looking forward to.
Mine are Plasma-Nano, Rail-SMG-BSM, Flak-Plasma-Rail, and possibly LOML-Flak. :P

Probably SMGs and the new Disk Shield Module (or whatever the name is).
I'd add it to my new, beefy front line tank and swap between shooting and absorbing dmg by tankyness and as soon as i'm getting focus I'd swap to the shield.
Might sound boring to you, but as someone who really enjoys being the tank, I'm definitely looking forward to it.^^
In general, splitting your potential firepower on two weapon types doesn't seem that smart to me. But some combinations could be really good though. Medics could compensate for their short range and low dmg by using a LOML (or rails) and bombers could add some SMGs on the front for air to air fights. Sure other things might work, but these are the ones that I imagine having the biggest impact on the playstyle of certain classes.
PS: And having some backup SMGs on railers to finish weakened opponents or fire back when someone gets to you could be great.
It's probably a good idea to add a second type of weapon to cover the weaknesses of your main weapon, but everything else will probably be pointless since every weapon you don't use is a waste of CPU and might in some cases cause clipping. I'd rather just have more of my main-type weapons instead.

I'll probably mix up my ram bot to have plasma cannons again, like the original... plus a shield and anti-air cannon. The only reason I ever switched to SMG was because I got sick of being defenseless against air units.
Probably run rails + smgs + teleporter on another bot.

It's sad when shit like this works in the current meta.

So I ended my sort hiatus after letting the game settle a bit. When I logged on to make sure that my Cicada still functions as intended, which it does. I found out I had been greatly reimbursed by the game developers.
So I decided to build a new machine from scratch and here it is.
Stealth Ray
I always wanted to build a hover.
Boy it's fast, it's got 3 radar jammers and the missiles are sweet. It can reverse as fast as it can go forward and it's pretty tough for a hover.
So its choice for harassment tactics.
Edit: Also notice the thrusters on the front, that's so if you flip by doing some high speed escape or off roading shit you can immediately flip back over.
Though flipping isn't usually an issue with this machine.

i can't stand hovers. don't like how they handle and flipping is usually a problem for me no matter where my center of gravity is. they're not as fast as skis either, so they don't even have that going for them.
i made a few new bots in preparation for the next patch. will post em soon

specifics for MAXIMUM LOADOUT patch:

THIS CHANGES THINGS
well, my plans went out the window just now. guess i'll try something else.
i was planning on running plasma cannons + blades with a flak cannon for anti air, but that ain't gonna be optimal for these changes. i'll have to make this work another way.

[edit2]
- The Plasma Launcher now fires its projectiles separately in a ‘round-robin’ fashion. You can pulse the trigger to fire one projectile at a time, or hold the trigger to unleash all your Power Bar in projectiles in a single clustered volley
...
- Tesla Blades are now only ‘open’ when they are selected, if you switch weapon they ‘close’
- Tesla’s do not have cooldowns at all and no longer get destroyed when you make contact with an enemy and no longer need you to heal them to regain their ‘ammo’
- Tesla Blades now act like futuristic chainsaws, so the longer you have them in contact with your enemy the more damage you will deal
- Each Tesla Blade that is in contact with an enemy will deal damage per second and consume Power at the same rate. The more Tesla’s you have the more damage per second you deal and the more Power per second you consume

[edit3]
other key changes worth noting:
- Added blink module
- Added disc shield
- All weapons have been significantly reworked to integrate them with the Power Bar and Loadout Systems
- The 6 gun limit has been removed, Recharge Times now decreased further when you add more than 6 weapons of some types (Rail, Laser, Plasma, Nano)
- Lasers are now real high velocity projectiles (as opposed to hitscan) and therefore you now need to ‘lead’ your target depending on its distance to you
- The damage of the Lasers has been increased to solidify the Laser as a close quarters weapon as it’s now much harder to hit distant and moving targets
- Rail Cannons now also fire round-robin, and you can fire as many as your Power will allow
- Rail Cannon shots are now real projectiles (i.e. no longer hitscan) and therefore users need to ‘lead’ their targets. The velocity of the Rail projectile is greater than the Laser.
- Rail Cannon damage is now applied in a more penetrative way, so ‘drilling’ into your target is more possible with Rail.
- Nano Disruptor fire their beams as short pulses in a ‘round robin’ fashion (as opposed to multiple beams at once)
- Additionally Nano’s will deliver significantly faster burst healrate if you add more to your Robot, but at the cost of depleting your Power quickly
- To compensate the Nano’s new burst heal potential the Nano’s no longer deal damage to enemies, they are exclusively heal only
- Firing weapons no longer resets the Health Regen cooldown timer, so now only taking damage prevents you from Regen
- All weapons now rotate their turret at the same speed, i.e. at the faster speed similar to that of the Laser
- Gun aiming no longer makes your guns point at your ally if they fly in front of the camera
- Added more servers and reduced the number of concurrent games on each server freeing up memory, CPU capacity and reducing the load ensuring a more consistent and lag free game experience

I brain stormed tons of new ideas, considered the new tech and all. But for a wopping 295 flops I can put a lot more stuff on my bot so I'm not bothering with it.
Considering the state of the game at the moment, one of the most devastating machines is asymmetrical actually.
Since I've found that there's no way a robot will really make good use of more than one missile launcher, that means you either deal with asymmetry or center the missile launcher right on top. Neon defender is what I came up with when playing with the idea.
Pros:
Tough as HELL!
New regeneration mechanics mean this mech can go all game without dying.
Great damage against air and ground with missiles.
Can out spar almost any other missile bot thanks to its shield side.
Cons:
No mobility to speak of.
How it works:
Carefully mind your positioning and the map, so that you can make sure to be in the most annoying spot possible and stick to it like glue until the enemies retreat. Incoming missiles? Who gives a fuck? Rotate to your shield side and tank them all, then retaliate with your own missiles. When you get low take cover and regenerate to full, much more safely than other bots. Do not get caught out, this mechs mobility is hella weak. You take a step, you better mean it.
This is like the video that guy posted earlier, with the one mech leg and the gun. Except maxed out.

nice, man. asymmetry just isn't something i tend to consider, but i imagine legs + missiles + shields would be a good combo. it'd give you time to reload.
you should slap a disc shield module on it.

I still haven't installed the game, but I want to make a Samurai style walker bot called Ronin.
Anyone have tips for balance or anything?

Normally I'm opposed to asymmetrical bots, but the results have been absolutely stunning. So much so that I redesigned the neon defender from the ground up.
Mhmmm you better believe it (Click to Show)
Identical to the previous version in terms of functionality, but even tougher to kill due to the layered/multi-connected nature of it all. Also it looks way cooler too.
Sadly for 295 flops I just couldn't get any value out of the disc shield or blink gadgets. My whole shield side costs less than 295 flops, I simply have no more room for it.
Also I need all my precious energy, for spamming missiles.

If you haven't played the game yet I'm not sure I can say anything that you'd have a frame of reference for.
I love the bot idea though.

ok folks, here's my latest bot.
i decided to try out a new structural design this time; it's more or less a layered honey comb structure. it's light, durable, breaks up in small bits instead of huge chunks when taking damage, and holds plenty of space inside the design for a lot of thrusters.
since i'm primarily using tesla blades as a weapon, i was using the teleporter module for a while... but i decided that it wasn't predictable or fast enough to be worthwhile, and replaced it with more thrusters, blades, and a few electroplates.
so far, this is working really well. it can take a beating, it's effective at reasonable range, and the blades do tons of damage.
also, i've started color coding my thrusters so i can tell at a glance which directions i can still move it. it's been very helpful.

The top view is the most telling of the design, pretty sweet. Not too much damage transferring directly inwards which is always good with the new regeneration mechanics. As long as a single kernal of your bot remains intact. I also really like how all the thrusters have the room to be tucked inside the armor.
This is inspiring me to make a tesla blader of my own.

I'm convinced that this is an actual stroke of genius.
