Not as far as I know. Although a lot of things are considered racist in the US but not here. Like the word "oriental". I don't understand why that's considered unacceptable, and I don't know how Americans go about referring to Chinese/Japanese/Korean/Vietnamese/Mongolian/Tibetan/etc. people without also referring to Indians, Pakistanis, Russians, and Filipinos, all of whom are clearly a different racial group.


While I'm here, I think the idea behind cigarettes and alcohol having different legal ages for consumption and purchase is that they're not too bad with careful moderation. So it's ok for kids if they have parental supervision, but you don't want them to start smoking twenty a day and drinking gin by the litre before they're old enough to understand the consequences.

I don't think the word oriental is considered racist when you're talking about those countries or people living there, but it's not a word I'd use for someone who's American-born.

Oriental means eastern IIRC so, there shouldn't be anything wrong with the word. It's like calling a Brit a Westerner.
