Everything I wanted to say about that thread god. It's supposed to be for letting out steam, but instead it makes me all steamed up reading it.
That's why you have to goto that place with the impression that everyone is just bitten by the storytelling bug and wants to entertain you. I mean, even the [Serious] Threads are just little cries for attention. Now I'm not saying these people don't deserve to be ignored. Sometimes, they do need legit advice. But if you're just viewing it as it is, the section becomes a museum of drama. An odd curiosity. There are essentially 3 kinds of F&R Threads:
1)The You Know What's Bullshit? - where like my MMO example, people just pick any little thing to rip on. Make it as common and inconsequential, but easily relatable as possible and just blow it out of proportion. Watch the fireworks. If people are calling you an idiot for it, you're not doing it right. Bonus points if ironic posters start showing up to piss you off even more.
2) The Hyun's Diary - Problems with parents? School? Bullying? Prospects in life? Dreams of animating as a career and the future dashed in one stroke? Head for the Dojo's personal hugbox and just let it all out. Bonus points if you just typed everything stream of consciousness style and don't even take the time to perform Carriage Return. Bonus points again if the situation is love-related. People eat that shit up; advice-givers and "ironic" posters.
3) The Flamebait Threads - Just pick a really touchy subject; anything that unites the Dojo as one nation and absolutely everybody agrees against/on. Racism. Hitler. Stickpage (Easy Mode, btw). Then sit back and watch the flames burn for pages and pages. Bonus points if Terk pops in out of nowhere and says the usual one-liner that makes the fangirls swoon.
Now just to clarify, I'm not hating on the F&R. Perhaps its existence is questionable but that's another mystery for another day. I'm just saying that it's like a drama-farm where every thread is a surprise, and if looked into with a completely objective mindset, it can be very entertaining for if and when you feel sorry about yourself or just want to read some random thing.
