So, I was quite immediately challenged to a battle (yay) by TheChosenGamer. After completing my entry, we came to the decision that I should post out the parts. So, since he challenged me, I gave him top billing. After all, I'm just some old guy who isn't really as active here anymore. I'm... a relic of the past.

ANYWAYS, onto the battles!

Character Profiles:
Verde the Botanist
Leoncio the Beast

TheChosenGamer's Entry
Spoiler (Click to Show)
, Verde was studying a special species of tree that can only be found at the famous jungle. While he was observing the rare tree, a shadow was lurking behind the tall grasses of the Amazon. Unaware of the danger, Verde continues to traverse through the muddy terrain, collecting samples for his experiments.

Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, a human with cat*like agility leaped out of the grass. The claw from the mysterious creature managed to scrape his arm, leaving a slash as if a sword just cut through him. He took a closer look at the beast. After further observation he finally noticed the mysterious face of the creature. "Well, well, if it isn't Leoncio the Beast" he said.

Leoncio didn't reply, instead he let out a loud roar that echoed throughout the jungle. All the birds suddenly went wild and flew in every direction.

"Hmph, I guess words are nothing to you, but you'll be a good addition to my collection" Verde said with a smile.

"You.....evil.......you.......kill......by me! Growl!" Leoncio said with his beast mind. "Oh, so you can speak." Verde replied. Leoncio began to attack again and pounced at the botanist.

*Strange, I thought he was usually calm, did the RHG coordinators have mistaken his personality* Verde said in his mind, but then he remembered, he can go out of control, like a real animal, when his animal senses overwhelmed him.

Verde don't have anymore time to think, he brought out a seed of his grass blade and whoosh! Out came his grass blade, just in time before a second scratch slashed through his body. He manage to block Leoncio's brutal attack.

After pushing each other, both of them were thrown away due to the force of their struggle. However, Leoncio's cat*like reflexes got him on balance again, but Verde rolled on the ground. Leoncio began the attack again before Verde can even get back on his feet. Little did Leoncio knew that Verde purposely rolled on the ground to lure him to a Great Oak that he dropped when he released the grass blade. It was all according to his calculations.

Leoncio, unaware of the trap was meters away from Verde. Verde prepared a spit right in his mouth to grow the Great Oak. Suddenly, Leoncio disappeared like a bubble. Verde was surprised, he was confused, don't know what to do. Then, he felt a scratch of a jaguar right at his chest. Fortunately, it is nowhere near the heart or he would have been dead. He felt another scratch on his arm, his legs, and on his back.

Verde grew weaker and weaker every scratch he receives. Until finally, he brought out a seed of his Stunfflesia and threw it at the ground. He covered his nose for he knows that even he can be affected by the pollen of the paralyzing flower. Leoncio's extra*sensory ability became a disadvantage to him. He was thrown to the ground, paralyzed.

Verde then healed his wounds with his Lotus. He was replenished and his strength came back. He saw his opponent face down on the ground.

Leoncio was helpless, but every struggle he makes, the angrier he gets, until his mind went blank. He began to move, unwillingly. Verde was stunned, he never saw someone move that quick after inhaling the pollen of his plant.

Leoncio had entered full beast mode. He no longer uses his brain, he is now a mindless killing machine. He began moving at the speed of sound and scratched Verde all over.

Verde was already half* dead until he remembered that he still has his Oak tree somewhere on the ground. There was no more time to think, a few more hits and he will be a cold, dead body.

He saw just below the ground Leoncio is standing on, a shiny glimpse of his seed. He ran to Leoncio and tried to attack him with the grass blade he is holding. Effortlessly, Leoncio grabbed Verde by the neck and raised him up in the air. There is not much time left, he has to spit at the right spot or else he will be dead. Leoncio readies his claws to swipe it at Verde's face. Verde spit at the spot where his seed is positioned, it is a little behind Leoncio's feet. He hit the spot with his spit but the Great Oak did not came out. Instead, a special grass blade that can grow a long size came out. Leoncio swipes him at the face but the Grass Blade was just in time to stab Leoncio at the gut. His claw was just an inch away from Verde's face. He let go of Verde and screams in pain. Verde consumed his last Lotus and his wounds have been healed. He then picked up his Grass Blade, and smacked it to Leoncio with its back. Leoncio fell, now surely, unconscious on the ground.

Thus, victory was given to Verde, however, feeling pity for the beast, he took his opponent to his lab, healed him and left him lying on the alleyways of the city.
And here's my entry:
Fauna vs Flora
The first and greatest victory
is to conquer yourself;
to be conquered by yourself is
of all things
most vile, and shameful.

____________________________________________________________

The moon sat in the sky, looking down upon the land with a gentle light, not a cloud to break its continuous gaze upon the land. Softly, a breeze blows across the fields, embracing a young lad whose blood boiled hotly despite the autumn chill.

Leoncio, hands together and eyes welded shut, steadied his breathing. His intentions this night were simple: he’d been called to this place by another, far from the banks of society, where nothing but grass and scattered trees made their residence. There were not even beasts about; nay, a correction. There was one beast, and it was cloaked in human flesh. His thoughts, disrupted by the sudden shift breaks his focus. He exhales, exhausted by his meditations and looking to spot if his opponent had arrived. Leoncio’s mind slowly drifts to when he initially joined this world of bloodshed and violence…

It was but two weeks prior, when the flyer had made its way to the temple he had taken refuge for a time, fellow monks sharing their mats and meals with the nomad. It spoke word of recruitments in a competition based on fighting, where those whose abilities and/or technology surpassed the norms could combat one another, receiving rewards of all manner. Though the thought of rewards held little temptation for Leoncio, what he did find interest in was who some of the listed combatants were. Amongst them were those who seemed as though they may be similar to him in nature. How had they come to terms with who they were? Did they struggle, were they simply born accepting that this would be their fate? Perhaps the answer was within this system, this conglomerate in which they congregated. The next day he spoke with the temple’s master, and after paying his respects, he made his way towards the city.

The trip was the comforting part, whilst the destination was truly frightening. The sights, the sounds, they overloaded his senses. Even entering in the later day, the hustle and bustle set his nerves on edge, and from the get-go, his blood nearly sent him into a frenzy. It was sheer luck that he was found by a kindly man who sheltered him, and took him to the registry. When asked what he wished for as compensation for his victories, he asked simply for enough money for food, and to be otherwise left to his own devices. He didn’t seek glory, he didn’t seek power, or wealth, or even a mate. He sought a truth, an answer to the question always in the back of his mind, and the path to that answer seemed to be through facing those like him. Through confrontation, he may just find his enlightenment. Given a small device that he was told was a “pager,” he was notified a few days later that his first opponent had been selected, a fellow new entrant into this competition.

The other entrant, it seemed, had similarly to him been less than enthused with the life within the city, but had himself asked that the battle take place a distance from city limits, in these fields. The time set had been not determined by either of them, but it was a time that Leon was bothered with. The night set his senses to high gear, the animal within on constant guard. He was unsure if he’d be able to control himself in this battle; for him, this first fight would not be enlightening for more than how the competition would progress. His mind snapped back to reality when a voice came from behind him.

“Terribly sorry,” a man said. “I hope you weren’t waiting long. Since I picked somewhere outside the city, they got me to pick up this little camera…” Leon turns to face the owner of the voice. The man who had spoke was easy to see in the bright moonlight. Wearing a coat as white as snow upon a green suit befitting one of the higher class Leon had seen in his youth, he gave off the air not of one who would care for nature, but of one who thrived in cities. In his hand was a silvery orb that shone brilliantly, with a large black circle at its center. The man casually tossed it into the air, where it hung, as if by unseen strings. Leoncio could make out a faint humming from it, and it held his gaze captive until the green gentleman coughed. “Well, you likely got my name from the short briefing they gave you, but still, it only seems right that we introduce ourselves. Just because we’re fighting doesn’t mean we’ve got to hate each other without warrant.”

His speech, which slightly threw Leoncio’s mind for a spin, was without any tones of deceit or anger. Understanding the gist of his word,s he decides to go first in the introductions. “I am Leoncio. Often, I am called Leon for short.” He gives a brief nod.

“Verde,” the man replies with a smile. “That’s what I go by, anyways. It’s a nice name. Spanish for green, and I believe it suits me.” He gives a brief chuckle. “Clever joke there, don’t you agree?”

Leon, who didn’t understand the joke, stoically watches him. Verde sighs, and runs his hand through his hair.

“You’re… not much of a people person, huh? Well, I suppose it’s not that uncommon around here. So, let’s get to this battle, I suppose. The audience is watching after all.” He points up at the orb, then from his sleeve, slides out a seed. It lands on the ground, and within moments, a green blade sprouts forth. Taking the grip in hand, he points it towards Leon. “En garde~!” He thrusts the blade forward.

Leoncio, instincts kicking in, sidesteps the thrust, his hands taking a familiar shape, and with his chi focusing on his fingertips, he slashes towards the blade. Despite its scent, like freshly cut grass on a summer’s day, the blade remains intact, though the blow knocks aside Verde’s arm. Verde throws a punch with his remaining arm, seeking to use the momentum from being spun as well as catch Leon off guard from the change in attack. The punch catches him well in the jaw, and he is knocked to the ground. Verde spins his sword a bit, letting out a yawn.

“Is that it? I know you’re young, but you can’t be defeated by a normal punch. It’s just no good, and it kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth-” His eyes widen as his blade is sliced into pieces. “Whoa, what?”

Leon stands up, bringing his hand back to his side, the muscles in his back visibly tense. He turns to Verde, and the change is evident, especially in his eyes. What were once brilliant green, have now turned a deep golden in color. “My name is Leoncio. Often, I am called Leon for short.” He takes back up his stance. “More often than that, I am called a beast.”

Verde grins, letting more seeds fall from his sleeves, an orchid of blades springing forth. “Well now, this has certainly gotten more interesting. Let’s keep things going then, shall we?” Grabbing another blade, he moves towards Leoncio, who similarly rushes forward.

Arms crossed into an ‘X’ before him, Leon launches claws towards Verde, who tosses down a seed in protection. A cactus springs forth, ten deep scratches eating into it whilst Verde takes cover behind it. “Whoa, whoa, that’s kinda dangerous, don’t you think?” He throws up the sword in hand, grabbing another from the ground while the one in the air is slashed at, and in the same motion, sweeps around the cactus to slice at Leon. “Huh-?”

Leon was not there, surprising Verde instead by appearing behind him and slashing his back. The strength of these claws is noticeably weaker, as they simply eat into his back, blood barely trickling out. Spinning, Verde slashes at Leon, once again catching his cheek. The smell of his own blood sets his mind blank, as the beast within him starts to take control.

Moving in with a quick flurry of sweeping steps, Leon takes ahold of Verde’s sword hand, and with a sharp twist, snaps it like a twig, the sound reverberating through the empty fields. The man lets out a scream, which is cut short by a punch to the stomach, and drops his weapon. Still gripping the now broken wrist, Leon spins around him, locking his movement, and dislocates his shoulder. More groaning is heard, though no scream, Verde still gasping for air. “Submit,” Leon says, his voice gravelly, as if his vocals were somehow growing less and less fit for human tongue.

Verde slowly gains back his breath, and starts to chuckle. “Did… did you really think all those seeds were for swords?” Leon looks up as a sword pierces through his stomach. He’s launched back and impaled to the ground, his grip on Verde lost as he looks upon his attacker. It was a vine, moving sentiently as though it had a mind of its own, wielding the sword in its tentacle-like grasp. It releases the sword, leaving Leon stuck, and moves back to pick up another. As Leon watches, more vines rise with swords, and they make their way towards him, posed menacingly above.

Verde manages to get to his feet. “Ah, fuck, you really did a number on my arm. Jeez.” He drops a seed, and a strange-looking lotus forms. Picking it up, he eats it, before gritting his teeth and groaning, then working to pop his shoulder back in place. “Ah, that’s not gonna fully heal my wrist, but at least I can move it a bit back and forth now. Still hurts like a bitch though.” He turns to Leon, and walks over. He looks down on the kid, meeting his golden gaze with his own grassy-green one. “Look, Leon, right? Give up, now. I don’t want you to die here. You’ve got talent, and killing already makes me feel like shit. Killing a kid would make me feel even worse. Look, I’ll give you a lotus to eat, it’ll help stop the bleeding, and I’ll get you to a hospital.” He offers his hand, only to have it slashed at by Leon’s claws. He takes back his hand, shaking it lightly, annoyed with the retaliation yet glad he was only nicked.

Leon, eyes burning bright, has become lost in the grips of the beast whose blood consumes him, a feral growl loosing itself from his throat. Tightening his abdominal muscles, he slowly pulls himself up, blade and all, and manages to get onto his feet. Verde watches with a mix of disappointment and fear.

“Well, I really didn’t want it to come to this.” He raises his relatively uninjured hand, then points it at Leon, signalling to the vines to finish the job. With inhuman speed, they simultaneously slash towards the young monk…

…only to be sliced to bits by a flurry of slashes. Leon… or more accurately, the beast within Leon’s blood, bares his teeth towards Verde. Despite most thought leaving his mind, he still bore the memory that this was the man who put this sword into him, filled him with pain. His instincts told him that if he did not take this man down

Friendly note, folks like Ken_Rou can't use Google Docs because Google is banned in their countries. It's best to just copy/paste straight into a spoiler.

Thanks for that bit of information! Added in a spoilered version of my half of the battle for those of you who can't view GDocs. Sadly, you'll get a less pretty font, but since I didn't have many italics or anything, the formatting was pretty simple.

EDIT: Also! I'm sure both of us would deeply benefit from some well intentioned CnC! Did we seem on the same wavelengths when it came to character actions? Did we appear to properly represent the way the character behaves? Did our stories manage to be a decent length, have decent transitions between scenes? Did they even need multiple scenes?

So... uh... huh. I don't... I honestly don't know what you could extract from him. He doesn't really... have powers? But do what you like.

Voted for Azure. Really, no CnC for the fauna (wtf....that's too damn perfect....at least as far as I can see.)

Gamer, make sure your tenses match up, and that you give vivid descriptions. The battle was pretty good, but emotional and physical settings were lacking. Also, give us a bit more story, not just a fight.

I thank you for the compliment. I must ask, what are your thoughts on Leoncio overall, his motivations for fighting? Do you feel that the way I presented him matched how I presented him on his character page?

Also, do you feel I properly represented Verde? As much as it bothers me to say it, I had to take some creative liberties due to the composition of his page. Looking over Verde's story, I do believe I nailed some of the intended aspects of him, but as I'm clearly biased, I'd enjoy hearing some outside input on it. I feel that simply portraying how your character would handle things is easy; portraying how others' characters would react is an entirely different beast to tackle (pun not intended), and can make or break a story.

Well you got one flaw on Verde. He is not sadistic and in your story you made him mention KILL YOU.

EDIT: Oh and about the power, I'm not gonna extract something from you just gain an ability somewhat related to you :3

Isn't the desire to not kill someone the opposite of sadism? :O Thanks for informing me of the fault, though.

Also, it'll be curious seeing what ability you gain. As mentioned, he doesn't really have powers, and of his two abilities, one is more like a genetic curse.

Edit: Heh, I'm a dragon with two wolves having voted for me. Animal friends, unite!

Okay. Azure:

I think that you did an accurate representation of Leon here. Of course, I can only go by your char sheet, so if you personally feel that you didn't, that's a different story. There are no obvious flaws, however.
I will say that I think Verde could have tended a bit more towards the eccentric geneticist type rather than be so comfortable with battle. He is a somewhat seasoned combatant from his char page's description, but he seems like he does it only because he absolutely needs to (either to earn money or defend himself. In this case it would be to earn money; in his version it was to defend himself). Just saying.

Also, based upon your story (all that about finding others like him, etc.) I would like to challenge you to a battle. I'll send you a PM as well.
