Holt christ dojo lags right now as fuck, time for discussion!
I mean im super fan of dojo. Maybe even more now because they have a portal.
Maybe its because I love their facebook system and maybe they dont even need a forum because of their system. But still I love the oldfags here on the stickpage forums. Most of the times I dont lurk the forums but god damn. I have most memories off of stickpage. Nish, Devour, whoever the fuck I love.
Why the fuck is stickpage still the same as 1000 years ago, why dont we try to change?
And why arent we changing at all?
Holy christ im talking drunk again.
Wow what lag.

I could go into detail about this but you're probably not looking for that. I can expand on why if requested, but the short answer is we are changing, it's just going to take a while.

That's the answer to why Stickpage hasn't changed yet, but what's the answer to why the Dojo is lagging?
I mean, you technically code both sites right? Might as well shed some light on it as well. Unless it's none of anyone's business in which should be clarified anyway (clarified that it's not anyone's business, I mean).

I don't know when it happened because I wasn't there but stickpage changed! It used to have a portal. Like a few years ago... But that doesn't count as recent does it...
Aug 24, 2015 10:26 PM #1398910
It has a portal right now. Nobody just knows about it.
Aug 24, 2015 10:28 PM #1398911
Probably should revive that one day...
Like barely anybody knows about it and the one time i've been on it is because of the history thread and something about a clan of terkoiz. You can't even watch anything on there or upload.

He didn't really ask about Dojo, he said it was lagging then asked why Stickpage hasn't changed. To clarify I don't work for HD any more, but when I made that site it was before I knew anything about working with "big data" and before a lot of the resources and tools I have now were available, so it's only really meant to serve a relatively small community and isn't prepared for scale beyond a certain point. This is a problem that big companies hire teams of people to solve, with a lot of progress being made recently from big names like Google, Netflix, and Facebook. For SP I'm piggybacking off of their work to ensure SP will run smoothly no matter how popular it is. I'm using technology that allows us to scale in any direction automatically, so for example if we have a spike in visitors one day and the site starts slowing down within a few minutes this technology will spin up a new web server to handle the load until the load goes down. At least that's a very basic representation of what it does.
Hyun's Dojo is not set up like that, it started and continues mostly as an out-of-pocket venture which means working with seriously limited hardware. Hyun's Dojo Studio has been pumping out content recently and they just had a release for Rhett & Link via GMM on YouTube, so people have been checking out the site more and more. Without going into too much detail it basically means that the legacy code is causing the hardware to struggle with keeping up with the 30+ million requests per month that Dojo is now regularly getting. When you experience lag it's because the server is already busy fulfilling someone else's request until it can get to yours. Dojo basically just needs some TLC for it's code, but that's easier said than done. Hyun is aware of the problems with the site and is working hard to fix them, I'm sure it'll be a temporary thing.

Sorry. I misconstrued Poppete because of the title of his thread. The way I saw it was that he was implying about wanting to know the lag's causes and just sharing his gripes with how unchanging this place is at the same time. I mean he did say he was always a constant lurker here so the lagging over there must've really been bugging him big time.
Also, I didn't know you're no longer running that site. I mean, we're not obligated to know, it's just we didn't know and it's a surprise as well.

Oh lol I guess I never saw a point in announcing it and I never really talk about my work outside of SP here so it just hasn't come up.

I suppose it would make sense given that you're now working on this site full time that your stint over there would have to end. I just never thought that the Dojo would finally be free of its Beta status.

Is it just my computer, or is that some post that contains foreign characters posted before the maintenance has changed in to messy codes?

Not gonna lie, in the 3 years since merging, not a damn thing seems to have been done. 'A while' in stickpage terms seems to mean decades. The most requested and foremost concern was a portal. Which 3 and a half years later, still doesn't exist. And the entire animating community has hence upped and left to HyunsDojo with is basically what FA once was.

Jeff got back to working on stickpage with CJ only recently. Most of these three years he wasn't technically employed to code for it and was dedicated to other things and the dojo.
Also there is a portal, it just doesn't have a link on the front page and no one uses it:

Yep, there's no way to lie about facts. There was some internal circumstances that resulted in the lack of progress since the merge before I was officially brought on, but it's not really a devastating secret that the merge didn't go at all as expected. I have only officially been a developer on SP for a few months during which time I've made tons of real progress that I've been posting about at least once a month in the linked thread. Stickpage has always been notorious for the amount of time it takes to do anything and part of my job now is to fix that. The state of SP is such that any real progress will be made in leaps, and as I am once again the only person working on an entire website it will take "a while" in my own terms as there is a lot of work to do. The difference this time around is that I'm putting in effort to be transparent about my activity relating to this site so that anyone can see or ask where I'm at and get a direct no-bullshit answer. That wasn't a privilege afforded to this community previously, and the only reason I do it is because that's what I have wanted as a regular member of the site since the merge. I don't know what more I could be doing until we're at a point where having people beta test is possible. You guys will just have to trust that I got this.
