The guy who killed at least 10 people at the Umpqua Community College in Oregon probably started a 4chan thread about his plans to carry it out. Reading the OP and the responses, I genuinely feel sick to my stomach. I don't know how I will sleep tonight, I'm so disturbed. Before, people like this were loners and stuck to themselves but now we have them congregating online and egging each other on and it's awful. Thoughts? Condolences? Suggestions on how to sleep after reading this?

It's so different hearing the name of the shooter on the news, it's quite another to see people interacting, egging each other on and saying these things. I see some of you guys on here. You're people to me and I love you guys. And I know there are some of you here who are introverted, or maybe hide away in the shadows. My heart aches to think of anyone being in the mental state to want to harm others for sport. Hunting people considered "normies" for the sheer resentment. This is such a problem I don't even know how to digest it.

Here's a link to the thread: https://archive.moe/r9k/thread/22785073/#22785073

Whether or not it was written by the shooter, such a thread is still so bone chilling. These people aren't just trolling. They're serious.

You never know who is attempting to be edgy and who will actually walk the talk. What is really chilling is how these kids parents haven't noticed something amiss.

I'm with Jutsu. People on the internet are crazy as hell and it's easy to just say anything without really being taken seriously. I'm surprised he went through with it, but honestly as messed up as things have been recently it doesn't surprise me. Everyone on 4chan is just acting like your regular teenage internet fags.

This is why people should open carry.

And they didn't even stop him, not even just tipping off the police like /b/ did. I can't comprehend their sense of accomplishment either.
I have a sneaking suspicion that r9k anons are scouring the internet right now.
On the partly-bright side, there's a new board so at least there's something.

4chan and its users are trash. Cesspool of teens trying desperately to appear edgy.

The place is full of clones trying to get attention using the same unoriginal tactic. It's like the filtered out shittiest of the shit youtube commenters from the "first" to the "darude sandstorm" trying to distinguish themselves from one another using the exact same joke. How people can seriously post without being aware is beyond me.

EDIT: Oh wait it's not beyond me. They're fucken teenagers.

This is nothing new, shit like this happens all the time on 4chan.

But I dont agree with that everyone there is shit. It can be a really good website for info too.

The big difference is that OP actually delivered.

And homebrews and whatever the board creates. Everyone thinks 4chan is just one community when actually it's split up between various boards, some worse than others (e.g. /pol/). However it doesn't change the fact that /r9k/ actively encourages this behavior is horrible. I don't know when did they become so shitty.

4chan is full of people that only even go there in the first people to talk shit. They just turn their brain off to dumb shit at each other for a chuckle or w/e. Every day there's a ton of shitheads starting threads like that one but don't actually go through with it.

Sure there was the guy that said:
>one of these days this will be real
>this one could be it

But unfortunately he was ignored because people on there see that shit all the time without anyone actually getting shot. Their assumption 4chan is just a bunch of douche kebabs goofing off and an actual shooter wouldn't post there.

Still a sad thing to watch.

You've got to be fucking crazy to go on a shooting spree.

Whether or not said crazy person happened to use a particular website has nothing to do with it; that's the same type of false correlation the media uses to link violence and video games.

I honestly don't see why the fact that he posted in 4chan about this is a big deal/important in any way.

It shouldn't be. The reason people would call bullshit on the fact he just says he's going to do it is because literally anyone could say it. If I became a huge serial killer with nobody having any leads on who I was and then someone decided to troll on the internet and say they did it, and I came out and admitted it online, are you going to be able to tell them apart? Same way nobody expects a twelve year old to have found your address and murdered you because you made fun of something they like on YouTube.

Just to be clear, I wasn't making a correlation between 4chan and the shooting. I woulda mentioned the name of the site even if I'd seen it on Yahoo or something. 4chan didn't make him crazy. And he also wasn't a "stupid" teenager. He was a grown ass man of 26 years old.

I was more concerned about the things people said and the thought process and justification for the shooting. Things like people saying "Beta Male uprising" very frequently throughout the thread. Like there's some kind of beta male union wanting to rise up and seek revenge by killing "normies". It's terrifying to have this kind of irrationality on a pretty significant scale. And to see the responses of people excited that he did it. It twists my stomach.

It's their board culture, they're just recycling their memes but now that something did happen they're just running with it. At least that's what I think.

don't take it so seriously. yes, the people on /r9k/ are depressed neets who hate the world.

no, i don't think that means they actually mean what they're saying. hating normies is practically a meme now.
