Would anyone recommend animating on a surface tablet? I'm thinking of purchasing one and how well it would work with flash(m8 or creative suite).

If you can afford it, why not?

But, you'll need Surface Pro to open flash 8 or Adobe Flash CSx

I'd personally say any time you could be directly drawing on a screen you should go for it. Having a Cintiq Companion has made it much easier for me to translate my ideas from paper to digital. I've used the Surface Pro 3 before and it will definitely help in the same way. The only tiny issue I have with those tablets personally is that they're not built for artists, which only matters if you're an artist looking for an artist's tablet. The smooth glass surface feels strange compared to the paper-like screens on Wacom tablets, but again that's incredibly minor for a general purpose tablet and doesn't mean you can't use the Surface as an artist.

I use a Wacom Tablet and it has made drawing on the computer MUCH easier than my mouse or (*gasp) my laptop trackpad.
If you're thinking of getting a tablet for flash, by all means, go for it!
:D
And good luck in future pursuits. :)

Thanks guys. After going to best buy, i figured that the tablet was good for flash drawings as long as the settings are well adjusted. I really do need a screen protector for it though. But again, thanks for all the input.

a surface tablet is pretty bad for art. but your choice.
I mean it only has 256 pressures of sensitivity, you need special wacom drivers for pressure sensitivity last time I checked, the pen itself needs actual batteries meaning you have to go out and buy more batteries if you run out. It's not comfortable at all on your lap because the built in stand digs into your leg, I read some reviews about the wacom driver having issues and the corners having problems. It's more than 1000$ for a i3 version of the surface pro (atleast in Canada.), The keyboard dock is overly expensive. If you're still around intermediate level you'd want to stick with a table tablet (Like a wacom intuos).
Oh and I've heard it can barely run a lot of programs like photoshop when it has a lot of effects. (which should be one of the main reasons you need a screen tablet. I mean for stickfigure animating any tablet can do it. Miccool draws all his sfx with a table tablet.)
Not recommended for animators/artists at all.
A while ago I was actually like you thinking if I should save up for a surface and if you have the money for a tablet like a surface get this:

The new Surface Pro 4 has 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity, just to let you know.
