Remember SOPA - the "copyright" legislation before Congress last year that public outcry stopped cold? Well, the same corporations behind SOPA have pushed to insert its most pernicious provisions into TPP. Says who? The organizations that stopped SOPA like the Electronic Freedom Foundation and the ACLU.

Under this TPP proposal, Internet Service Providers could be required to "police" user activity (i.e. police YOU), take down internet content, and cut people off from internet access for common user-generated content.

Violations could be as simple as the creation of a YouTube video with clips from other videos, even if for personal or educational purposes.

Mandatory fines would be imposed for individuals' non-commercial copies of copyrighted material. So, downloading some music could be treated the same as large-scale, for-profit copyright violations.

Innovation would be stifled as the creation and sharing of user-generated content would face new barriers, and as monopoly copyrights would be extended. The TPP proposes to impose copyright protections for a minimum of 120 years for corporate-created content.

Breaking digital locks for legit purposes, such as using Linux, could subject users to mandatory fines. Blind and deaf people also would be harmed by this overreach, as digital locks can block access to audio-supported content and closed captioning.

My opinion? I'm aware that it's bad and Doom Paul was right (IT BE HAPPENING) but what can we do about it? Petitions? Boycotts? Descend into anarchy? Are we turning into Shadowrun yet?

Let's go to the underweb, bitches. Anyways, the internet is the last free place in the world. And it doesn't even "exists". But that's what makes it FREE. It's impossible to control the internet when we can't even control our streets: a PHYSICAL place. haha can you imagine? The must be like 100 downloads for every mug on the streets. Think about it. How many stuff do you download on the internet (even if it's just a picture you delete 5 seconds after you look at it) in one single day? And it's a lot more if you are an animator. You would need a LOT of people to sustain such project. And people who knows how to use a computer and also how to surf on the web. Obviously, millions of people knows how to, but those people also download songs, pictures, movies, software, etc. Do you think they would agree with that? They would be affected by that too, so I don't think so. People who want this thing to happen are people who barely knows what an URL is. People who barely knows what a download is, and compares it to "stealing". They are a minority with some power. But power is useless when the whole world is against you.
Do you think companies like Google, or Mark Zuckerberg are against downloads from the internet?
HA! If this happens, facebook would lose 50 percent of its content. And not to talk about Google...

After reading your points, I guess not. You make good points.

I might be overly optimistic, but even if this was implemented, it won't last. All these corporations are failing to realize that one of the most important parts of being a successful business is a satisfied consumer. With all this control in place piracy will only grow more rampant. Digital and media business will fail as consumers find other choices and ways around. And when everyone is breaking the law it's not longer the law.

Or at least I hope so.
