Characters
MC, the main character of the story, probably is insane.
Gregory, friend of MC, unfunny joker
Samantha, friend of MC, super 100% seriously person
Narrator, well… um… the narrator I suppose, no one really knows what he does.
Stefan, writer of play, or something like that.
Main character casually walks in, staring at his phone, and sits down on a chair facing to the right of the audience. He sits there for a few seconds and then looks around cautiously. He then shrugs and stands up, placing his phone on his seat. He then starts to sing badly and dance awkwardly.
MC “Somewhere, over the clouds!”
Audience starts to laugh, MC looks around surprised, he starts to walk towards the edge of the stage, rubbing his eyes, he’s trying to see something. His eyes then widen and he falls back to the ground, horrified.
MC “Whaaa- Who are all you people?!”
He picks himself up from the ground, putting the phone in his pocket, he starts to walk to the edge of the stage. He moves cautiously towards the edge of the stage.
MC “Do you people even talk? (Pause) Helloo?”
MC makes a cup by his ear, waiting patiently.
MC “I gotta show my friends this.”
MC runs out of the scene and the lights turn out.
Scene transition
Scene has two chairs and a table
Samantha and Gregory sit by a table saying nothing hearable, but the audience can see them speaking. MC runs onto the scene, panting.
MC “Why the heck are you guys acting so normal?”
Samantha “Dude, you look like you’ve seen a ghost?”
MC “How are you guys so relaxed, don’t you both see the crowd of people staring at us?”
MC points at the audience, Samantha and Gregory react by looking at the audience.
Gregory “Yeah I see something, a whole lot of nothing.”
MC “Can’t you see? There are a bunch of people staring right at us!”
Samantha “Seriously, are you okay MC? Your pointing to a wall.
MC “No no no, I’m serious! Can you guys seriously not see them?”
Narrator walks onto the scene.
Narrator “MC was very confused and afraid, he couldn’t understand why his friends couldn’t see these strange people in front of him.”
MC “Who the heck are you?!”
Narrator “MC questions something no one else can see, believing someone is narrating him.”
MC “Please say you at least see him.”
Samantha “Okay, you need to lie down dude, I think you just need to calm down.”
Gregory “You might be insane in the membrane.”
Samantha tries to grab MC but MC swats her hand away.
MC “Nonono, this is the stereotypical part where the guy with the gift gets told to calm down when something bad is happening, you can forget it. I will not play some part in some play!”
MC runs off scene.
Narrator “MC runs off from the scene, leaving his friends behind even more confused. (shout) I mean, its not like we’re in a play.
Samantha, Gregory and the Narrator run off scene on the same side as MC.
Scene transition
Empty scene
MC runs onto the scene, panting, trying to get his breath back.
MC “Why is this happening to me? I can’t be going insane, am I?”
MC thinks deeply.
MC “No, no, no, no and no. I can’t be going insane, I mean I’m a normal guy, this stuff doesn’t happen to people like me! We go around minding our own business and… well… whatever normal people are supposed to be doing nowadays, I don’t know!”
Narrator “MC being unable to understand these strange events, starts to slowly break down, with his sanity on the brink of madness.”
MC “Not funny.”
Narrator “You don’t need to find it funny, I’m just following the script.”
MC “Wait, what script?”
Narrator “Well since you can see me and the audience, you might as well know that your in a play.”
MC “I already figured that out!”
Narrator "Oh, so you’re not just a brainless monkey then?"
MC shouts angrily and grabs the narrator and shakes him until Gregory and Samantha walks onto the scene.
MC “Why me?”
Narrator “It’s in the script!
Samantha “Calm down MC! We’re going to take you home.
MC “Don’t you understand! We’re stuck in a play, the audience watches our every move, and everything is scripted by some sadistic man who likes to play with puppets!”
Gregory “Sure we’re in a play, you be Romeo and I can be Juliet. Oh Romeo, Romeo, where for art thou, Romeo?”
Narrator “I’m just going to cross that one out.”
MC “It all makes so much sense! I know why my name is MC! Its an acronym for Main Character!”
Narrator “I totally didn’t see that coming.”
Samantha “Calm down MC, that’s ridiculous.
MC “Nononono, you both may be blind to it, but I see the truth. I refuse to follow some script!”
Gregory “Okay, that’s enough, Talking to walls aren’t going to help you, we’re taking you to the hospital MC.”
Gregory starts to restrain MC, with MC trying to fight back. He manages to get away and falls to the edge of the front stage.
MC “No! No! Anyone! Help me!”
Spotlight onto MC
MC “Oh god that’s bright!”
Samantha and Gregory grab MC
They start to pull MC off the stage
MC “Come on one of you! Any of you! Say something!
The narrator gets up from the floor when the other characters exit the scene.
Narrator “Ugh, I need a raise.”
Stefan “Your not getting one!”
Narrator walks off scene.
Scene transition
Scene has one chair, MC wears a white coat with his hands in his armpits
Narrator walks onto the scene and stands by MC
MC “Are you here to add insult to injury?”
Narrator “Well, that is my character.”
MC glares at the narrator and growls
Narrator “You know how you wanted to defy the script-”
MC “I succeeded, I broke the system.”
Narrator “Not really, you followed the script down to the last detail”
MC “Dang it.”
Narrator “Don’t worry about it too much.”
MC “So what happens next?”
Narrator “I leave you to your solitude and, well, that’s it. I’ll see you at the curtain call.”
Narrator pats MC on the back and starts to walk away, exiting the same way he entered.
MC “Well, I suppose insanity can’t be all that bad.”
Lights start to dim until total darkness. The chair is taken away in the darkness and MC walks off stage, then the lights turn back on. Actors walk onto the scene and bow.
Note: For those that don't know; this is a script for a play, so please treat it like a script.
