Hey so I'm not sure if any of you know of the program "DrawPile" but if you don't, it's basically a program that allows multiple artists to draw on the same canvas at the same time from different computers. When i first heard of this from my sister (an AMAZING manga/anime artist btw, i can post her deviantart if you want) the first thought that came to mind was "what if there was something like that for flash?" And so far i haven't found any kind of animation version of it, so i was wondering if there would be any good programmers here willing to see if they can modify flash, like either add a plugin or make a whole new program, that allows multiple animators to work on the same file at the same time through some kind of internet server. This could make joints WAY easier considering nobody has to send a file back and forth. It could also help for pretty much anything where multiple animators work on the same project. I also think it could be really fun. Of course, my guess would be that it'll even run faster than the original DrawPile because of flash's vector graphic system. If you would also want something like this, don't be shy to let me know, and if you're a programmer and would actually want to try making something like this, you can also let me know. Thanks!

It would be extremely hard, to say the least.

Lots of work for whoever tried to do it. Also, who would host the server? If it got big, the server would have to expand as well.

Probably not gonna happen. Sorry. :c

Well i was thinking it could be a LITTLE simpler if there's just a bit of code to where any time someone changes the file, those changes get transferred to all the other people using the canvas. And as for the server, in the future, i could raise some cash and host it myself. If it does get popular (i imagine it will) i could just also run a couple ads maybe and it could mostly pay for itself. When i think about it, it'll be difficult but definitely not impossible. It might be possible with just a plugin. Not exactly sure if plugins can make flash use internet, but it's still worth a try in my opinion.

Well there are simpler ways of drawing together if that's what you want. There's many options available online, and you don't even need to install a program to do that. iScribble being one of them.

EDIT: Oh wait, I just realized. You want that but for animation? That'd be quite... chaotic, which is why I can imagine not many people would want to do it. I do hope you get some takers at least.

I've had this idea before as well but thought that there must be some major reason someone hasn't already done it yet. Of course it could just be that no one has ever tried.
As for the server problem you could just make it so that people can host sessions on their own machines and allow people that the want to access. Lots of software use similar systems already.

Also I assume this would require some screwing around in Adobe's shit and I'm not sure they would be too happy about that.

Like a LAN system? Yeah, I've thought about doing that as well. I think in a perfect world it'll have both options. and it would be messing around with flash definitely, but i'm not even sure if adobe still even owns the rights to macromedia flash 8, which is the version i plan to use for the beta. I'll have to do some research on that. Even if they do, in most cases i can still redistribute a modified version as long as i don't make money off it. which in that case i might take off the ads i mentioned earlier, but i'm fine with that.
