Hi so I was playing against a guy who giant massed by turtling first and getting miner walls and CA... I pretty much had nothing I could do against him besides giant mass back, which did not work since he already had a headstart. In this situation what should I do to stop them from turtling? Thanks.

You have map control, so you can either:
a) go directly into your own giant mass (but this requires you to predict that he is actually giant massing as oppose to just turtling, and as you said it can be too late if you don't see it).
b) go for an early mage (mages are a good counter to turtles in general, and if he's spending money in giants and growth its doubtful that he will have a shadow with shinobi 2.)
c) ninjas/meric/archers (this completely stops him from contesting map control, if you keep archer with farrows outside his second row, merics should heal ninjas and remaining spears enough to negate the giant damage. Go in and out with the ninjas using shinobi on the walls and giants and try not to lose them).
Generally, (a) is quite risky due to having to predict, but it'll give the best results if you're correct. Otherwise whether you use b or c just depends on how many units other than giants he has. If he does have some archers and spears, go for a mage, if its pure giant then go ninjas.
